2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of A.J. Wiss III of Pana, who passed away |
4 | | on June 23, 2023; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, A.J. Wiss was born to A.J. Wiss Jr. and Betty |
6 | | (Haverfield) Wiss in Pana on July 1, 1946; he graduated from |
7 | | Sacred Heart School in Pana and Pana High School; he received |
8 | | his bachelor's degree in Administration of Justice from |
9 | | Southern Illinois
University; he married
Sandie Deason in |
10 | | Biloxi, Mississippi on April 8, 1967; he served as a sergeant |
11 | | in the
U.S. Air Force from February 1967 through December |
12 | | 1970, where he was stationed
in the U.S. and Thailand during |
13 | | the Vietnam era; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, A.J. Wiss worked for Western Auto/True Value and |
15 | | opened Wiss
Electronics; he was a third generation owner of |
16 | | Pana Iron, and he also owned and operated Byte
Size Computers; |
17 | | most recently, he worked as a code enforcement officer for the |
18 | | City of Pana; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, A.J. Wiss served on the City Council of Pana for |
20 | | two terms, serving for 12 years; he
served as the bicentennial |
21 | | chairman of Pana in 1976; he was also the chairman of the |
22 | | Christian County Republicans; and
|
|

1 | | WHEREAS, A.J. Wiss was
a member of many organizations in |
2 | | Pana, including St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where he
was a |
3 | | part of the choir, the Pana Rotary Club, the Pana Lions Club, |
4 | | the Pana VFW, the Pana American Legion,
the Pana Knights of |
5 | | Columbus, the Pana Jaycees, the Police Board, the Pana Country |
6 | | Club, the Pana
Veterans Honor Guard, the Pana Community |
7 | | Hospital Board, the First
National Bank Board, the Pana |
8 | | Industrial Development Corporation, Primetime, and Pana Pride; |
9 | | and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, A.J. Wiss enjoyed
golfing, telling stories, and |
11 | | being a private pilot; he attended the Land of Lincoln Honor |
12 | | Flight in September 2022; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, A.J. Wiss will be remembered as a sharp-witted |
14 | | husband, father, brother, and friend who loved people; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, A.J. Wiss was preceded in death by his parents |
16 | | and his brother, Dr. Thomas Wiss; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, A.J. Wiss is survived by his wife; his children, |
18 | | Kelley (Dennis) Self and
Karen (Steve) Clark; his |
19 | | grandchildren, Chelsea (Sandy Morris) Sasser, Robby (Ruth |
20 | | DeBaise) Sasser, Grace Clark, and Tatum Clark; his |
21 | | great-grandchildren, Rylee, Addison, and Harley;
and his |

4 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
5 | | A.J. Wiss III and extend our sincere
condolences to his |
6 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be it |
