2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of John Patrick "Pat" Kelly of |
4 | | Springfield, who passed away on July 23, 2023; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Pat Kelly was born to Joseph and Ellen Mahady |
6 | | Kelly in Springfield on September 17, 1935; he attended |
7 | | Cathedral Grade School and graduated from Cathedral Boys High |
8 | | School in 1953; he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed |
9 | | overseas during the Korean War; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Pat Kelly worked as a plumber for 42 years, |
11 | | primarily in construction for A.J. Weiskopf & Sons and in |
12 | | construction and maintenance at the State Capitol Complex for |
13 | | the Illinois Secretary of State; he was a member of UA Local |
14 | | 137; and

15 | | WHEREAS, Pat Kelly was very proud of his Irish heritage |
16 | | and a fan of all things Irish, from the Notre Dame Fighting |
17 | | Irish to Springfield's own Saint Patrick's Day Parade; he was |
18 | | a founding member of the local Ara's Army/Irish Mafia bus |
19 | | trips to South Bend, Indiana; he was given the Michael J. |
20 | | Howlett Award as Springfield's Irishman of the Year in 2009; |
21 | | he remains the namesake for the Irish public house J.P. |
22 | | Kelly's in downtown Springfield, which is owned by his |
