SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of John Patrick "Pat" Kelly of
4Springfield, who passed away on July 23, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Pat Kelly was born to Joseph and Ellen Mahady
6Kelly in Springfield on September 17, 1935; he attended
7Cathedral Grade School and graduated from Cathedral Boys High
8School in 1953; he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed
9overseas during the Korean War; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Pat Kelly worked as a plumber for 42 years,
11primarily in construction for A.J. Weiskopf & Sons and in
12construction and maintenance at the State Capitol Complex for
13the Illinois Secretary of State; he was a member of UA Local
14137; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Pat Kelly was very proud of his Irish heritage
16and a fan of all things Irish, from the Notre Dame Fighting
17Irish to Springfield's own Saint Patrick's Day Parade; he was
18a founding member of the local Ara's Army/Irish Mafia bus
19trips to South Bend, Indiana; he was given the Michael J.
20Howlett Award as Springfield's Irishman of the Year in 2009;
21he remains the namesake for the Irish public house J.P.
22Kelly's in downtown Springfield, which is owned by his

1daughter, Ellen; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Pat Kelly was preceded in death by his parents
3and his siblings, Winifred Gardner, Helen Todd, Josephine
4Lloyd, Isabelle Carey, Catherine Baker, Joseph Henry Kelly,
5Rita Roderick, and Alice Maureen Kelly; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Pat Kelly is survived by his wife, Norma
7McCullough Kelly; his children, Chris (Gae) Kelly, Maria
8Stacy, Dan (Shannon) Kelly, Colleen McDonald, Patrick Kelly,
9Terry (Anne) Kelly, and Ellen Giacomini; 18 grandchildren; and
10seven great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13John Patrick "Pat" Kelly and extend our sincere condolences to
14his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Pat Kelly as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
