1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION
|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Phil Greco of Villa Park and Elmhurst, |
4 | | who passed away on June 20, 2023; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Phil Greco was a graduate of Marmion Military |
6 | | Academy and Elmhurst College, known today as Elmhurst |
7 | | University; he was a longtime resident of Villa Park and |
8 | | Elmhurst; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Phil Greco served as owner and president of The |
10 | | Odeum Expo Center in Villa Park for 40 years; his family |
11 | | business hosted a variety of special events, including |
12 | | concerts, indoor soccer, corporate events, and public trade |
13 | | shows; he loved the challenge of producing unique and complex |
14 | | events that were visited by more than 1.2 million people each |
15 | | year; he also remained involved with PEP Industries, a |
16 | | manufacturing company established by his family in 1947, which |
17 | | specializes in ecclesiastical furnishings for Catholic |
18 | | churches; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Phil Greco was involved with many community |
20 | | events and organizations, including the Elmhurst Summer Fest, |
21 | | the Village of Villa Park Economic Development Committee, the |
22 | | International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM), and the |
|

1 | | Villa Park Chamber of Commerce; he played a key role in |
2 | | establishing the DuPage County Convention and Visitors Bureau, |
3 | | serving on the inaugural board of directors and continuing to |
4 | | serve for many years thereafter; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his lifetime, Phil Greco was |
6 | | recognized for his service and generosity many times; most |
7 | | notably, he, along with the Odeum and his family, were |
8 | | recognized by the DuPage County Board and the Village of Villa |
9 | | Park Board of Trustees with several proclamations for their |
10 | | investment and commitment to the community, such as the |
11 | | development and construction of The Great Western Trail Head |
12 | | Arch; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, In his own fight with ALS, Phil Greco helped fund |
14 | | a study with Northwestern Memorial Hospital to research the |
15 | | positive and clinical effects of yoga and breathing exercises |
16 | | on ALS patients, a study which will soon be published and has |
17 | | already proven helpful for many patients with lung disease; |
18 | | and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Phil Greco is survived by his wife, Kathleen |
20 | | (Olinger); his daughter, Jordan (Blake) Lejcar; his |
21 | | granddaughter, Loretta; his brother, Patrick Greco Sr.; his |
22 | | sisters, Francine "Sis" (Bruce Campbell) Greco and Renee |
23 | | Greco; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and |

1 | | great-nephews; therefore, be it
|
2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
3 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
4 | | Phil Greco and extend our sincere condolences to his family, |
5 | | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 | | presented to the family of Phil Greco as an expression of our |
8 | | deepest sympathy.
