SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the deaths of Michael "Mike" and Amy (Baker)
4Zinchuk of Champaign, who passed away on May 1, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mike Zinchuk was born to Roger and Hope Zinchuk
6in Chicago on January 3, 1968; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Amy Zinchuk was born to Eileen Owens and Robert
8Baker on July 6, 1968, and she was raised in Gifford; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Mike and Amy Zinchuk attended and met at the
10University of Illinois; they were married at St. Paul's
11Lutheran Church in Gifford on October 10, 1992; they raised
12their three children in Champaign, where they also became
13known for their penchant for raising big, friendly dogs; at
14the time of their passing, they had been married for over 30
15years; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Mike Zinchuk was one-of-a-kind, a man who built
17his life around supporting his children and wife, was fierce
18in standing up for his family and himself, and was always
19willing to help a neighbor or offer help; through his own
20actions and encouragement, he instilled the values of critical
21thinking and hard work in his children; and

1    WHEREAS, Mike Zinchuk was known for his unmatched
2knowledge, goofiness, and vocabulary; he was an avid reader
3and lover of history, and he never stopped learning about
4individuals who inspired him; his mastery of the Lord of the
5Rings series was only surpassed by author J.R.R. Tolkien
6himself; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Amy Zinchuk was well known in the community for
8her passion for music and teaching piano; she loved music from
9an early age, and she started her college career studying
10music; after becoming a mother, a role she valued above all
11else, she began teaching friends' children at their request;
12through word of mouth, her home piano business grew to 60
13students and lasted several decades; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Amy Zinchuk was her family's rock and their go-to
15person whenever anything bad or good happened; she cared
16deeply about her students and family; she passed on her
17personal brand of music to anyone she met, especially her
18children, and lived her life with the strong belief that
19dancing is appropriate in nearly every environment; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Mike and Amy Zinchuk were individuals who
21complemented each other in their differences and shared the
22same values and love for their children; they will remembered

1as beloved parents, friends, and so much more to many; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Mike and Amy Zinchuk were preceded in death by
3Mike's mother, Hope Zinchuk, and Amy's father, Robert Baker;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mike and Amy Zinchuk are survived by their
6daughter, Elizabeth Zinchuk Stultz; their sons, Ethan Zinchuk
7and Matthew Zinchuk; their son-in-law, Joshua Stultz; their
8son's girlfriend, Francesca Roelle; Mike's siblings, Christine
9(Jim) Blaul, Tom Zinchuk, Joe (Julie) Zinchuk, Mary (Karl)
10Sealund, Brian (Jenny) Zinchuk, and John (Molly) Zinchuk;
11Amy's siblings, Neil (Diane) Baker and Julie Baker; 14 nieces
12and nephews; nine great-nieces and great-nephews; a host of
13aunts, uncles, and cousins; and their Alaskan Malamutes, Odin
14and Storm; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Michael "Mike" and Amy (Baker) Zinchuk and extend our sincere
18condolences to their family, friends, and all who knew and
19loved them; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Mike and Amy Zinchuk as an
22expression of our deepest sympathy.
