2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Debra Ann Helton of Carrollton, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on May 27, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Debra Helton was born to Charles and Georgia | ||||||
6 | (Khlantzos) Camerer in Carrollton on January 30, 1966; she | ||||||
7 | graduated from Carrollton High School in 1984; she received | ||||||
8 | her Bachelor of Arts in Speech Pathology and Audiology from | ||||||
9 | Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 1987 and her | ||||||
10 | Master of Science in Speech Pathology from Southern Illinois | ||||||
11 | University in 1988; she received her Master of Arts in | ||||||
12 | Education Administration from the University of Illinois at | ||||||
13 | Springfield; she married Charles Helton III in Carrollton on | ||||||
14 | October 17, 1987; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Debra Helton worked as a speech language | ||||||
16 | pathologist since 1988, serving many hospitals, nursing homes, | ||||||
17 | skilled nursing facilities, schools, home health agencies, and | ||||||
18 | special education facilities throughout many counties and | ||||||
19 | states; since 1989, she was a certified member of the American | ||||||
20 | Speech–Language–Hearing Association and the Illinois | ||||||
21 | Speech-Language-Hearing Association, where she served as | ||||||
22 | director for legislative affairs; and

1 | WHEREAS, Debra Helton served as past president for the | ||||||
2 | Carrollton Community Unit School District #1; at the time of | ||||||
3 | her passing, she was the assistant cross country coach for | ||||||
4 | Carlinville High School; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Debra Helton was a nominee for Illinois State | ||||||
6 | Representative for the 97th District; she enjoyed taking trips | ||||||
7 | to the Capitol in Springfield with her mentor, Joyce Morrison, | ||||||
8 | where they lobbied legislators in favor of Christian | ||||||
9 | conservative issues with their group, Ladies of Love; she | ||||||
10 | served as Republican precinct committeewoman for Linder | ||||||
11 | Township; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Debra Helton was a member of St. John's Catholic | ||||||
13 | Church in Carrollton; she lived a life of excellence, and she | ||||||
14 | supported her family in all of their endeavors and was the | ||||||
15 | driving force behind their success; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Debra Helton was preceded in death by her father, | ||||||
17 | Charles Camerer, and her stepfather, Moe Garner; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Debra Helton is survived by her husband, Charles; | ||||||
19 | her mother, Georgia Garner; her daughter, Charlene Helton; her | ||||||
20 | son, Charles Helton IV; her sister, Susan (Mike) Robinson; and | ||||||
21 | her cousins and nephews; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
3 | Debra Ann Helton and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
4 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
5 | further
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
7 | presented to the family of Debra Helton as an expression of our | ||||||
8 | deepest sympathy.
