SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Debra Ann Helton of Carrollton, who
4passed away on May 27, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Debra Helton was born to Charles and Georgia
6(Khlantzos) Camerer in Carrollton on January 30, 1966; she
7graduated from Carrollton High School in 1984; she received
8her Bachelor of Arts in Speech Pathology and Audiology from
9Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 1987 and her
10Master of Science in Speech Pathology from Southern Illinois
11University in 1988; she received her Master of Arts in
12Education Administration from the University of Illinois at
13Springfield; she married Charles Helton III in Carrollton on
14October 17, 1987; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Debra Helton worked as a speech language
16pathologist since 1988, serving many hospitals, nursing homes,
17skilled nursing facilities, schools, home health agencies, and
18special education facilities throughout many counties and
19states; since 1989, she was a certified member of the American
20Speech–Language–Hearing Association and the Illinois
21Speech-Language-Hearing Association, where she served as
22director for legislative affairs; and

1    WHEREAS, Debra Helton served as past president for the
2Carrollton Community Unit School District #1; at the time of
3her passing, she was the assistant cross country coach for
4Carlinville High School; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Debra Helton was a nominee for Illinois State
6Representative for the 97th District; she enjoyed taking trips
7to the Capitol in Springfield with her mentor, Joyce Morrison,
8where they lobbied legislators in favor of Christian
9conservative issues with their group, Ladies of Love; she
10served as Republican precinct committeewoman for Linder
11Township; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Debra Helton was a member of St. John's Catholic
13Church in Carrollton; she lived a life of excellence, and she
14supported her family in all of their endeavors and was the
15driving force behind their success; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Debra Helton was preceded in death by her father,
17Charles Camerer, and her stepfather, Moe Garner; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Debra Helton is survived by her husband, Charles;
19her mother, Georgia Garner; her daughter, Charlene Helton; her
20son, Charles Helton IV; her sister, Susan (Mike) Robinson; and
21her cousins and nephews; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3Debra Ann Helton and extend our sincere condolences to her
4family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
5further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Debra Helton as an expression of our
8deepest sympathy.
