SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Gary Lynn Icenogle of Carthage, who
4passed away on June 1, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gary Icenogle was born to William E. Icenogle and
6Wilma Jean (Bauser) Curtis in Spring Valley on August 1, 1946;
7he graduated from Rushville High School in 1965; he enlisted
8in the U.S. Air Force, where he was a heavy machinery operator
9and ordinance specialist while stationed at Andersen Air Force
10Base in Guam during the Vietnam War; he completed his service
11at March Air Force Base and was honorably discharged with the
12rank of sergeant on January 18, 1972; he was baptized and
13confirmed in his faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural
14Carthage on October 21, 1972; he married Carolyn Kay Huls on
15May 12, 1973; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Gary Icenogle was employed by the Western
17Illinois Electric Co-op (WIEC); he furthered his education by
18earning a degree in heating, air-conditioning, and
19refrigeration from Southeastern Community College in August
201990; he was also employed in maintenance at the Bentley
21Lumber Company, Robert Morris College, Southeastern Community
22College, and Memorial Hospital, from which he retired in 2008;

1    WHEREAS, Gary Icenogle devoted himself as a Boy Scout
2leader for many years, volunteering as scoutmaster for Troop
372 of Carthage from 1986 to 1991; under his leadership,
4approximately 14 young men earned the rank of Eagle Scout; as a
5result of his efforts, he was awarded Volunteer of the Year by
6Cub Scout Pack 39 in 1986, the National Scoutmaster Award of
7Merit in 1990, the Algonquin District Award of Merit in 1991,
8and the Eagle Ridge District Award of Merit for the Saukee Area
9Council in 1993; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Gary Icenogle had a passion for fishing and loved
11the outdoors; he instilled a love for camping, hunting, and
12especially fishing in his children and grandchildren; he
13enjoyed woodworking, leaving behind many keepsakes; he was
14very artistic and occasionally painted woodland scenes and
15refurbished vintage steel toy trucks; in his later years, he
16also assembled model airplanes; he enjoyed reading,
17particularly Civil War era history; he was fond of raising
18cattle and tinkering with tractors; he had an undying love for
19his family that will be felt for many generations to come; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Gary Icenogle was preceded in death by his wife,
21Carolyn; his parents; and his stepfather, Clyde Curtis; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Gary Icenogle is survived by his son, Steven

1James (Megan) Icenogle; his daughter, Jennifer Lynn
2(Christopher) Meeks; his grandchildren, Jessie, Dalton, and
3Zachary Icenogle and Samuel and Benjamin Meeks; his brothers,
4Eldon "Butch" Icenogle and Dennis (Kate) Icenogle; his
5sisters, Debra Bordenkircher, Barbara (Roger) Bailey, and
6Shelly (Hank) Petrey; his in-laws, Carla (Kenneth) Crossland,
7Nancy Huls, and Lester (Yvonne) Huls; and numerous nieces and
8nephews; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Gary Lynn Icenogle and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Gary Icenogle as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
