SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Gary Lee Newlun of North Pekin, who
4passed away on May 18, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gary Newlun was born in Pekin to Clarence and
6Dorothy Newlun on December 20, 1949; he served with the United
7States Army in Germany between 1969 and 1972; he graduated
8from Bradley University with a degree in accounting and
9business administration; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Gary Newlun worked as a truck driver for his
11father's business, Newlun Transport, prior to his military
12service; afterward, he worked as an accountant in the
13transportation industry and was most recently employed as a
14parts delivery driver for O'Reilly Auto Parts; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Gary Newlun became a member of Alcoholics
16Anonymous in 1994 and reaped the benefits of nearly three
17decades of sobriety; through his years in AA, he helped many
18people make positive changes in their own lives; while he did
19not always have a lot, he was always willing to give others
20what he did have, whether it was a place to live, a ride to a
21meeting, or the encouraging advice of taking life one day at a
22time; and

1    WHEREAS, Gary Newlun enjoyed woodworking and landscaping;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, Gary Newlun was preceded in death by his parents;
4his infant brother, Scott; and his infant sister, Sue; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gary Newlun is survived by his children, Mark
6(Regina) Newlun and Erica (Bradley) Bolton; his grandchildren,
7Mark Jr., Mason, Aric, Aiden, Nicholas, Noah, and Evan Newlun
8and Annaliese, Alexandra, and Adrienne Bolton; and his
9sisters, Judy Smith, Carol Arms, Barbara Angle, and Bonnie
10Beard; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Gary Lee Newlun and extend our sincere condolences to his
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Gary Newlun as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
