2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Diann Marie Bennett of Petersburg, who |
4 | | passed away on March 5, 2023; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Diann Bennett was born to George S. and Marian E. |
6 | | Davis in Bennington, Kansas on December 7, 1928; she graduated |
7 | | from Wamego High School and Kansas State College in Manhattan, |
8 | | Kansas with high honors; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Diann Bennett taught high school mathematics |
10 | | prior to moving to Illinois and raising her family; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, As her children began to graduate, Diann Bennett |
12 | | returned to school in her 50s, attending Lincoln Land |
13 | | Community College; with her new computer skills, she set up |
14 | | accounting systems as the office bookkeeper for R&H Home |
15 | | Supply; she finally retired at age 91; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Diann Bennett was a member of the Petersburg |
17 | | United Methodist Church and served in numerous local |
18 | | organizations, including the Daughters of the American |
19 | | Revolution (DAR), the Petersburg Town and County Women's Club, |
20 | | Cub Scouts, Brownies, New Salem Shooting Stars, and United |
21 | | Methodist Women; and
|

1 | | WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Diann Bennett enjoyed having |
2 | | visitors, playing cards, growing and arranging flowers, |
3 | | swimming, reading, raising cats, tutoring, and visiting her |
4 | | family near and far; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Diann Bennett was known for her positive energy, |
6 | | giving heart, humor, and sense of adventure; she will be |
7 | | missed for her unconditional love, ready laugh, sage advice, |
8 | | listening ear, love of life, and sweet smile; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Diann Bennett was preceded in death by her |
10 | | parents; her sister, Alice Hartig; her cousin, James Chaffee; |
11 | | and her son, Stuart Bennett; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Diann Bennett is survived by her children, Liane |
13 | | (Greg) Hammer, Harold (Gaylene) Bennett, Susan (Dayton) Wilde, |
14 | | and Karen (David) Higginbotham; her grandchildren, Tavelle |
15 | | (Shirley) Hammer, Shalika Hart, Zein Hammer, Erin (Danny) |
16 | | Bennett, Elliot Bennett, Sami (Dominick) Quinn, Benjamin |
17 | | (Jordan) Wilde, Martha Wilde, Caitlyn Higginbotham, and Joseph |
18 | | Higginbotham; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and |
19 | | nephews; therefore, be it
