SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to congratulate the Very Reverend Milos M. Vesin, Ph.D., on the occasion of his retirement as pastor of St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church; and

WHEREAS, The V. Rev. Dr. Vesin was born to Marinko and Nada Vesin in Novi Sad, Serbia on February 25, 1956; and

WHEREAS, The V. Rev. Dr. Vesin graduated from St. Arsenije Serbian Orthodox Seminary in Sremski Karlovci, Serbia in 1975; he then attended Isidor Bajic Music School, majoring in solo-singing; he continued his studies at the Theological Faculty of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Belgrade, Serbia, graduating in 1980; and

WHEREAS, The V. Rev. Dr. Vesin joined the newly founded clergy choir St. Sava in the Diocese of Shumadija-Kragujevac, Serbia, becoming its conductor and touring in Serbia, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, and Romania; he oversaw the choir's production of several liturgical music recordings; and

WHEREAS, The V. Rev. Dr. Vesin then pursued postgraduate studies in pastoral theology and psychology at the Roman Catholic Theological Faculty in Switzerland; he also continued his music studies at the Academy for Church Music in Switzerland; and

WHEREAS, From 1980 to 1995, the V. Rev. Dr. Vesin represented the Serbian Orthodox Church at conferences in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Hungary, Romania, Greece, Sweden, Holland, England, Australia, and the United States; and

WHEREAS, The V. Rev. Dr. Vesin married Dragana Todorovid in 1988, and their son, Marko, was born in 1991; and

WHEREAS, V. Rev. Dr. Vesin was ordained as a deacon by St. Sava in 1988, and he was assigned to St. George Cathedral Church in Novi Sad, Serbia; he was then ordained into the priesthood in 1990; and

WHEREAS, V. Rev. Dr. Vesin has served as the pastor of St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church since 1990, first in South Chicago and then in Lansing; during his tenure, he earned his Ph.D. in Psychology in 2006; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his pastoral duties, The V. Rev. Dr. Vesin has served as a professor at St. Sava Theological Seminary in Libertyville, where he teaches church chant, homiletics, and pastoral psychology; and

WHEREAS, The V. Rev. Dr. Vesin has also authored and translated numerous books, and he has helped produce many musical recordings; and

WHEREAS, The V. Rev. Dr. Vesin's retirement will be celebrated by the parish of St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church on October 1, 2023; after his final divine liturgy service, a banquet will be held in his honor at the Serbian Social Center in Lansing; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Very Reverend Milos M. Vesin, Ph.D., on his retirement as pastor of St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church, and we thank him for 33 years of faithful service to the parish; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the V. Rev. Dr. Vesin as an expression of our esteem and respect.
