2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of William D. "Bill" Gissel of Aledo, who |
4 | | passed away on May 4, 2023; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Bill Gissel was born to William A. and Genevieve |
6 | | (Permantier) Gissel in Chicago on June 14, 1947; he earned his |
7 | | bachelor's degree from St. Ambrose University; he received his |
8 | | commission in the U.S. Navy, and he immediately entered flight |
9 | | training, earning his wings and serving as a naval aviator, |
10 | | primarily flying H-3s; he served as a member of the Apollo 17 |
11 | | recovery team; he married Antoinette "Ann" Bauwens in Rock |
12 | | Island on December 27, 1969; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Bill Gissel had numerous interests and excelled |
14 | | at many things; he loved being in nature, whether riding his |
15 | | quad, gardening, doing yard work, or simply enjoying the |
16 | | outdoors; he was an avid reader and a student of history, and |
17 | | his vast expertise of the Civil War era was a culmination of |
18 | | extensive studies and exploration of countless battlefields; |
19 | | he was also a talented builder, spanning woodworking and |
20 | | remodeling to designing and creating structures; and

21 | | WHEREAS, Bill Gissel was known for his larger-than-life |
22 | | personality, always being ready with a good story or a joke, |
