2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Elon "Lon" Wilson Frampton Jr., who | ||||||
4 | passed away on December 20, 2010 at the age of 86; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Lon Frampton was born to Elon Wilson Sr. and Anna | ||||||
6 | (Callahan) Frampton in New York City, New York on July 27, | ||||||
7 | 1924; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Lon Frampton married Priscilla Burhans in | ||||||
9 | Alexandria, Virginia on August 16, 1958, and she passed away | ||||||
10 | on June 30, 2022; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Lon Frampton began his science career at the | ||||||
12 | Hospital of the Rockefeller Institute in New York City; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Lon Frampton served in the U.S. Army during World | ||||||
14 | War II, through which he was accepted into the Army | ||||||
15 | Specialized Training Program; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Lon Frampton later joined the 78th Division HQ | ||||||
17 | Special Troops Medical Detachment and served as a medic in the | ||||||
18 | European Theater; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Lon Frampton's service included being present at |
| |||||||
| |||||||
1 | the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of Remagen; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, After the war's conclusion, Lon Frampton worked | ||||||
3 | in the laboratory at University College Hospital in London, | ||||||
4 | England; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Lon Frampton's educational journey led him to | ||||||
6 | receive a Bachelor of Arts degree from Syracuse University, a | ||||||
7 | Master of Science degree from Northwestern University, and a | ||||||
8 | Ph.D. in bacteriology from the University of Illinois at | ||||||
9 | Urbana-Champaign; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Lon Frampton served on the faculty at the | ||||||
11 | University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston as | ||||||
12 | a radiation biologist for ten years; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Lon Frampton later joined the faculty at Northern | ||||||
14 | Illinois University in the Department of Biological Sciences; | ||||||
15 | and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Lon Frampton established R&F Laboratories with | ||||||
17 | Dr. Lawrence Restaino, a laboratory specializing in food | ||||||
18 | safety research and testing; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Lon Frampton loved golfing and baseball and was a | ||||||
20 | lifelong fan of the Major League Baseball team the Athletics, |

1 | from their original home in Philadelphia to their current home | ||||||
2 | in Oakland; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Lon Frampton was a member of First United | ||||||
4 | Methodist Church in DeKalb, the American Society for | ||||||
5 | Microbiology, Sigma Xi, and the Radiation Research Society; | ||||||
6 | and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Lon Frampton was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
8 | and his brother, Frank; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Lon Frampton is survived by his son, Richard, and | ||||||
10 | his daughter, Gail; therefore, be it
| ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
12 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
13 | Elon "Lon" Wilson Frampton Jr. and extend our sincere | ||||||
14 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
15 | him; and be it further

16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
17 | presented to the family of Elon Frampton as an expression of | ||||||
18 | our deepest sympathy.
