SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Ivan Claudio Gonzalez of Chicago, who
4passed away on June 14, 2022, and wish to remember him on the
5anniversary of his birth, May 10; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Ivan Gonzalez was born to Mario Gonzalez and Rosa
7Gonzalez on May 10, 1982; he was the proud child of immigrants
8who instilled in him a sense of responsibility to help uplift
9his community; and
 
10    WHEREAS, At the age of 22, Ivan Gonzalez began to organize
11and advocate for progressive change in the Latino community
12and all communities in Illinois; as a champion for
13working-class people, he helped pass legislation in the
14General Assembly to better the lives of immigrants through
15public schools, labor, and affordable housing; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Ivan Gonzalez served as chief of staff to State
17Senator Omar Aquino since 2016; during his tenure, he managed
18day-to-day operations of the senate district office,
19legislative agenda, and community relations and became an
20influential advocate for the Latino community; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Ivan Gonzalez was one of the most iconic and

1beloved policy and political consultants in the State of
2Illinois, paving the way for many in politics today, including
3people in City Hall, Cook County, and recently in Congress
4with the historic election of Delia Ramirez to the U.S. House
5of Representatives; he served as a senior advisor to then
6State Representative Ramirez until his passing, which occurred
7two weeks before her and Senator Aquino's election to the
8State Central Committee; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Ivan Gonzalez was known for his kindness,
10generosity, and infectious laugh, having a positive impact on
11the lives of many who crossed his path; through his huge,
12joyous smile, he brought together both friends and rivals to
13remind us that we can always forgive and that there is always
14an opportunity to forget about the past and start over; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Ivan Gonzalez was a true giant in the
16ever-growing and evolving progressive movement, and his
17influence on politics in the State of Illinois will not be
18forgotten; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Ivan Gonzalez is survived by his parents; his
20sister, Vanessa; his brother-in-law, John Velez; and his
21nieces, Liliana and Daniela Velez; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2Ivan Claudio Gonzalez and extend our sincere condolences to
3his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
4further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Ivan Gonzalez as an expression of
7our deepest sympathy.
