| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to | ||||||
| 3 | congratulate Dr. Jerry Corcoran on the occasion of his | ||||||
| 4 | retirement as president of Illinois Valley Community College | ||||||
| 5 | on July 1, 2023; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Dr. Corcoran was appointed the tenth president of | ||||||
| 7 | Illinois Valley Community College on March 18, 2008 and has | ||||||
| 8 | had a 33-year career with the school; he began his career with | ||||||
| 9 | the dislocated workers center as farm grant coordinator; he | ||||||
| 10 | then became director, followed by director of purchasing, the | ||||||
| 11 | college's first director of human resources, vice-president | ||||||
| 12 | for business services, and finance/treasurer; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Dr. Corcoran is the third longest-serving | ||||||
| 14 | president in the Illinois Valley Community College's 99-year | ||||||
| 15 | history; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, In his 15 years as president of Illinois Valley | ||||||
| 17 | Community College, Dr. Corcoran oversaw numerous improvements, | ||||||
| 18 | including the opening of the 80,000 sq. ft. Peter Miller | ||||||
| 19 | Community Technology Center in 2014, the opening of the | ||||||
| 20 | college's first satellite campus, the demolishing of the | ||||||
| 21 | 40-year-old "temporary buildings" on the east campus, the | ||||||
| 22 | relaunching of the successful agriculture program, the | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | addition of a 600-vehicle parking lot, the completion of a new | ||||||
| 2 | ADA-only parking lot, the enhancement of the truck driver | ||||||
| 3 | training program and facilities, and the addition of a | ||||||
| 4 | student-life center and cyber café; the school's foundation | ||||||
| 5 | raised more than $2.1 million in support of its first capital | ||||||
| 6 | campaign, and a $7.5 million endowment is now in place in order | ||||||
| 7 | to award more scholarships; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Dr. Corcoran holds a Doctorate of Education in | ||||||
| 9 | Curriculum and Instruction from Northern Illinois University, | ||||||
| 10 | a Masters of Arts in Educational Administration and | ||||||
| 11 | Supervision from Chicago State University, and a Bachelor of | ||||||
| 12 | Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Dr. Corcoran and his wife, Katherine, live on the | ||||||
| 14 | family farm north of Ottawa; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
| 16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Dr. | ||||||
| 17 | Jerry Corcoran on his retirement as president of Illinois | ||||||
| 18 | Valley Community College on July 1, 2023, and we wish him the | ||||||
| 19 | best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to Dr. Corcoran as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
| 22 | esteem.
