SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Dale E. Rhodes of Colona, who passed
4away on April 28, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dale Rhodes was born to Clarence and Pearl
6(Thomas) Rhodes in Lafayette, Indiana on October 19, 1938; he
7graduated from Fowler, Indiana High School in 1956, and he
8participated in basketball and track, setting the school
9record for the 100-yard dash in 1956; he served in the U.S.
10Army in Korea from 1956 to 1958, during which he played
11basketball for the Army; and
 
12    WHEREAS, After returning from military service, Dale
13Rhodes started working as a safety director for Ringle
14Express, Inc. in Fowler, Indiana; he married Marilyn Freeland
15at Sacred Heart Church in Fowler, Indiana on June 13, 1959;
16after Ringle Express opened a second location in the Quad
17Cities in 1960, he transferred to that location in Illinois;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, After retiring from the trucking industry, Dale
20and Marilyn Rhodes owned and operated Countryside Tearoom in
21their home while traveling across the Midwest to partake in
22craft shows; and

1    WHEREAS, Dale Rhodes loved sports and coached little
2league basketball and baseball in Geneseo; his biggest joy
3came from watching his children, grandchildren, and
4great-grandchildren play sports and participate in
5extracurricular activities; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dale Rhodes was preceded in death by his parents;
7his in-laws, Bernard and Catherine Freeland; his son-in-law,
8Richard Gilman; his brothers-in-law, James Freeland and George
9Grieves; his sisters-in-law, Joyce, Phyllis, Jan, and Mary
10Freeland; his niece, Mary Miller; and his nephew, Mark
11Grieves; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dale Rhodes is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his
13sister, Doris Bird; his children, Cathy Gilman, Chris (Jim)
14Nordstrom, and Richard (Sofia) Rhodes; his grandchildren,
15Shane, Jenica (Blake) Scheib, Brenden (Erica) Nordstrom,
16Jamisen (Meghan) Nordstrom, Chance (Lexy) Nordstrom, Jarron
17Nordstrom, Elizabeth Rhodes, Olivia Rhodes, and Jennifer
18Rhodes; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews,
19brothers, sisters-in-law, and friends; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22Dale E. Rhodes and extend our sincere condolences to his

1family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
2further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Dale Rhodes as an expression of our
5deepest sympathy.
