SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are pleased to 
3join Danville in celebrating the commemoration of the 125th 
4anniversary of the Danville branch of the VA Illiana Health 
5Care System, the Danville VA Medical Center; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The Danville Branch of the National Home for 
7Disabled Volunteer Soldiers was founded in 1898 and was the 
8eighth of ten "homes" established by the National Home for 
9Disabled Volunteer Soldiers nationwide between 1866 and 1929; 
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives 
12Joseph Cannon of Danville played an important role in the 
13creation of the Danville branch of the National Home for 
14Disabled Volunteer Soldiers; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, The  facility was developed to provide long-term 
16health care and maintenance for the thousands of disabled or 
17elderly veterans who had served in the Union forces during the 
18American Civil War, and it presaged the modern system of 
19veterans' medical centers; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Illinois had a significant need for a home, 
21sending more than a quarter of a million enlisted men to serve

1in the Civil War, with more than 34,000 laying down their lives 
2for the Union cause; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, The VA Illiana Health Care System is dedicated to 
4providing veterans with health care services at six locations, 
5serving a 34-county area of central Illinois and west-central 
6Indiana; and
 
7    WHEREAS, In response to the need for affordable housing 
8for veterans and their families, the VA Illiana Health Care 
9System collaborated with the opening of Cannon Place in 2017 
10and expanded Veterans Villages in 2020; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, The VA Illiana Health Care System is one of the 
12leading health care systems, serving veterans in the VA Great 
13Lakes Network; and
 
14    WHEREAS, In 2022, the VA Illiana Health Care System 
15provided 337,981 in-person visits, provided 32,854 bed days of 
16care, and provided 6,573 telehealth visits, showcasing their 
17dedication to helping those who served with the care they 
18deserve; therefore, be it
  
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL 
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commemorate the 
21125th anniversary of the Danville branch of the VA Illiana

1Health Care System, the Danville VA Medical Center, and 
2commend them for their dedication to our State's veterans; and 
3be it further
  
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
5presented to the Danville VA Medical Center as a symbol of our 
6respect and esteem.
