SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Donald E. Scott of Dwight, who passed
4away on April 13, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Donald Scott was born to Edward and Mary (Root)
6Scott in Odell on March 3, 1926; he graduated from Saunemin
7High School in 1944; he married Dorothy Jean Oelschlager at
8the Dwight United Methodist Church on November 7, 1950, and
9she preceded him in death on January 10, 2016; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Donald Scott served in the U.S. Army during World
11War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, retiring after
12more than 20 years of service; and
 
13    WHEREAS, After his military service, Donald Scott returned
14to the area and worked for R.R. Donnelly, retiring after
15spending 20 years with the company; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Donald Scott was very active in the Boy Scouts,
17the Lions Club, and the VFW, serving as commander for many
18years; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Donald Scott loved storytelling and spending time
20with his family and friends; and

1    WHEREAS, Donald Scott was preceded in death by his
2parents; his brothers, George, Walter, and Charles; his
3sisters, Laura Fox and Mary Nell Slavik; his daughter, Frances
4Starlene Rafferty; and his grandchildren, James Scott and
5Katelyn Joyce; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Donald Scott is survived by his children, Daniel
7Scott, Russell (Kathleen) Scott, Ronald (Pamela) Scott, and
8Rita (Patrick) Joyce; his grandchildren, Brian (Whitney)
9Scott, Kenneth (Mandi Foster) Scott, Patrick (Ashley)
10Rafferty, Jennifer (Aaron) Wise, and Collin Joyce; his
11great-grandchildren, Aiden, Kallen, Westen, Zoey, Harlon,
12Emily, Abigail, Emma, and Olivia; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Donald E. Scott and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Donald Scott as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
