SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Dorothy Mae Johnson of Springfield,
4who passed away on February 23, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dorothy Johnson was born to Callie Mae (Smith)
6Williams and Roosevelt "Bubba" Williams Sr. in Macon,
7Mississippi on January 21, 1950; she married James E. Johnson
8Sr. on March 21, 1970, and they moved to Springfield in the
9early 1970s; she graduated from Lincoln Land Community College
10through the Nursing Certification Program; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dorothy Johnson worked as a Licensed Practical
12Nurse (LPN); and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dorothy Johnson was a lifelong member of Union
14Baptist Church, and she served on the Nursing Guild Auxiliary
15and the Usher Ministry; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dorothy Johnson was a person of strong faith from
17a young age; her favorite pastimes were gardening and caring
18for her dogs; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Dorothy Johnson will be remembered as a loving
20and devoted mother; and

1    WHEREAS, Dorothy Johnson was preceded in death by her
2husband; her father; her brother, Roy Lee Williams; and her
3granddaughter, Jade Cheri Johnson; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dorothy Johnson is survived by her mother; her
5daughter, Delores (James Jr.) Jones; her sons, James Earl
6Johnson Jr. and Jerry Lee (Jennifer R.) Johnson; her
7grandchildren, James Earl Johnson III, Jerverous L. Johnson,
8Jami R. Jones, and James R. Jones III; her
9great-granddaughter, Novi'Aire Ivy'Rose Johnson; her siblings,
10Roosevelt (Michelle) Williams Jr., Abraham Williams, Bernice
11(Rev. Steven) Richie, Robert (Barbara) Williams, L.C. (Brenda)
12Jones, Carleen Glass, and Colleen Glass; and a host of aunts,
13uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be
14it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Dorothy Mae Johnson and extend our sincere condolences to her
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Dorothy Johnson as an expression of
22our deepest sympathy.
