| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to | ||||||
3 | congratulate Monica Maxey on the occasion of being named as | ||||||
4 | one of Curriculum Associates' Extraordinary Educators for the | ||||||
5 | Class of 2023; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Curriculum Associates, LLC was founded in 1969 | ||||||
7 | and designs research-based print and online instructional | ||||||
8 | materials, screens and assessments, and data management tools | ||||||
9 | used in a number of school districts in the State of Illinois, | ||||||
10 | providing teachers and administrators with the resources | ||||||
11 | necessary for teaching diverse student populations and | ||||||
12 | fostering learning for all students; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Started in 2020, Extraordinary Educators is an | ||||||
14 | annual program that celebrates and connects exemplary teachers | ||||||
15 | in grades K–8 from around the country; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, The class of 2023 has nearly 340 years of | ||||||
17 | combined teaching experience and includes classroom teachers, | ||||||
18 | special education teachers, and instructional specialists, | ||||||
19 | with educators ultimately being selected by an advisory board | ||||||
20 | featuring leaders from Curriculum Associates, previously | ||||||
21 | inducted Extraordinary Educators, and a college student | ||||||
22 | pursuing a degree in Urban Education; and

1 | WHEREAS, Monica Maxey, a special education teacher who | ||||||
2 | instructs K-2 at Summersville Grade School #79 in Mount | ||||||
3 | Vernon, was chosen for the class of 2023 from hundreds of | ||||||
4 | nominations and represents the best of the best; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Monica Maxey was among 30 educators from 22 | ||||||
6 | states selected for exhibiting best-in-class use of i-Ready®, | ||||||
7 | i-Ready Classroom Mathematics, and/or Ready®, illustrating | ||||||
8 | growth and achievement through formal assessments, | ||||||
9 | demonstrating innovation and engagement practices for | ||||||
10 | students, being an evangelist for high expectations and | ||||||
11 | student achievement, championing equity, and having taught for | ||||||
12 | at least two years; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Monica Maxey, as a member of the class of 2023, | ||||||
14 | will have access throughout the year to a network of peers from | ||||||
15 | around the country with whom she can collaborate and connect, | ||||||
16 | as well as access to professional development opportunities | ||||||
17 | from Curriculum Associates; she will also be invited to | ||||||
18 | participate and present at the Extraordinary Educators | ||||||
19 | Leadership Summit and other professional learning events; | ||||||
20 | therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
22 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Monica |

1 | Maxey on being as one of Curriculum Associates' Extraordinary | ||||||
2 | Educators for the Class of 2023, and we thank her for her | ||||||
3 | continued dedication to her students and the future of | ||||||
4 | education; and be it further

6 | presented to Monica Maxey as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
7 | respect.
