2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Delbert D. "Del" Haschemeyer of |
4 | | Athens, who passed away on January 23, 2023; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Del Haschemeyer was born to Ernest and Mary |
6 | | Haschemeyer in Quincy on August 25, 1941; he grew up on the |
7 | | family farm, which led to a lifelong interest in farming and |
8 | | the environment; he graduated from Central High School in Camp |
9 | | Point and Western Illinois University; he married Sue Nusbaum |
10 | | at Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield in August 1965; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Del Haschemeyer was employed as a field |
12 | | representative for the local Farm Service Cooperative in |
13 | | Williamsburg, Iowa for three years; he then attended law |
14 | | school at Valparaiso University and graduated in 1969; and |
15 | | WHEREAS, Del Haschemeyer started his legal career with the |
16 | | Heyl Royster law firm in Peoria; after a couple years with the |
17 | | firm, he left to join a new state agency, the Illinois |
18 | | Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA); over the course of 23 |
19 | | years with the IEPA, he served as a staff attorney, assistant |
20 | | to the director, manager of enforcement programs, deputy |
21 | | director for 13 years, acting director, and small business |
22 | | ombudsman; he also served as an assistant attorney general |

1 | | with the Environmental Division of the Illinois Attorney |
2 | | General's Office for seven years; he was proud and |
3 | | appreciative of his time working with the talented and |
4 | | dedicated people at the IEPA and the Illinois Attorney |
5 | | General's Office; he was also a member of the Stratton Law Firm |
6 | | for five years; and |
7 | | WHEREAS, Del Haschemeyer served on the Board of Directors |
8 | | for Athens Community Park, Immanuel Lutheran Church of Athens, |
9 | | and Lutheran High School in Springfield; he was a member of Our |
10 | | Savior's Lutheran Church in Springfield, and he served in |
11 | | several capacities with Immanuel Lutheran Church and Our |
12 | | Savior's Lutheran Church; with his wife, he served as a |
13 | | volunteer usher for the Center for Performing Arts at the |
14 | | University of Illinois at Springfield; he was also a member of |
15 | | the Athens Lions Club and several environmental organizations; |
16 | | and |
17 | | WHEREAS, Del Haschemeyer enjoyed coaching his sons in |
18 | | youth baseball and participating with them in Boy Scouts; he |
19 | | was a loyal St. Louis Cardinals fan in a household of Chicago |
20 | | Cubs fans, and he enjoyed trying to negotiate an annual |
21 | | Cardinals-Cubs bet with his sons; and
|
22 | | WHEREAS, Del Haschemeyer enjoyed playing baseball and |
23 | | softball in his younger years and later golfing, mostly at |
|

1 | | Country Hills; he also enjoyed traveling, music, live theater, |
2 | | fishing, conversations with friends over a cup of coffee or a |
3 | | cold one, conversations with children, gardening, feeding and |
4 | | watching the birds, and reading; he particularly enjoyed |
5 | | watching his children and grandchildren participate in various |
6 | | sporting and other events, and he was especially proud of |
7 | | their accomplishments; and

8 | | WHEREAS, Del Haschemeyer was preceded in death by his son, |
9 | | Roger; his parents; his sister, Nancy Wells; his |
10 | | sister-in-law, Sally Haschemeyer; and his brother-in-law, |
11 | | Robert Deacon; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Del Haschemeyer is survived by his wife of 56 |
13 | | years, Sue; his sons, David, Mike (Kaycee), Brian (Holly), and |
14 | | Mark (Carrie); his daughter-in-law, Patty (the late Roger); |
15 | | his grandchildren, Madison, Kyle, Hailey, Emily, and Eli; his |
16 | | siblings, Sharon Deacon, Peggy (Gary) McConkey, Wayne |
17 | | Haschemeyer, and Sheila (Randy Wilt); his brother-in-law, Gary |
18 | | (Bev) Wells; Sue's brother, Kurt (Debbie) Nusbaum; Sue's |
19 | | sisters, Randa (Gary) Copeland, Donna Aschenbrenner, and Peggy |
20 | | Nusbaum; his aunt, Dorothy Ufkes; his uncle, Louis Reuschel; |
21 | | and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
