2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Teddy Gene "Ted" Koester of Chatham, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on January 24, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Ted Koester was born to James Richard Koester and | ||||||
6 | Alice Nell Kribbs in Moberly, Missouri on October 10, 1959; he | ||||||
7 | graduated from Glenwood High School in 1978, receiving varsity | ||||||
8 | letters in baseball, basketball, and football and being voted | ||||||
9 | by his peers as the most personable, the most popular, the most | ||||||
10 | athletic, the best all-around, and the 1978 prom king; he was | ||||||
11 | an outstanding athlete and earned a football scholarship to | ||||||
12 | play at Southeast Missouri State University; he married Kelly | ||||||
13 | Ann Rourke on September 21, 2013; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Ted Koester was a true craftsman and spent most | ||||||
15 | of his life as a contractor, building many homes in Chatham and | ||||||
16 | the surrounding areas with his company, Homes by Ted Koester; | ||||||
17 | he also owned and operated several real estate companies and | ||||||
18 | worked for Illinois National Bank; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Ted Koester's passion for sports led him to | ||||||
20 | opening Ted's Sporting Goods in Springfield at the age of 19; | ||||||
21 | he was asked to sponsor and soon recruited to play on a | ||||||
22 | slow-pitch softball team, where he met lifelong friends; he |

1 | was the former vice president of Chatham Baseball and | ||||||
2 | Softball, Inc. (CBSI), and he led the construction of the | ||||||
3 | baseball concession stand that is now dedicated in his honor | ||||||
4 | at Chatham Community Park; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Ted Koester was a proud Chatham Jaycee since 1980 | ||||||
6 | and was the leader of the "Engine Room" at the annual Chatham | ||||||
7 | Sweetcorn Festival; he enjoyed gardening, fishing, golfing, | ||||||
8 | and spending time at the family cabin on Sugar Creek Lake in | ||||||
9 | Missouri; he enjoyed listening to country music, spending time | ||||||
10 | in the lodge, where he often enjoyed a drink with family and | ||||||
11 | friends, and watching old westerns, sports of all kinds, and | ||||||
12 | the Food Network; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Ted Koester was known for being a hard worker and | ||||||
14 | possessing high integrity and character; he was a man of few | ||||||
15 | words and many deeds; most of all, he will be remembered for | ||||||
16 | his infinite and unyielding love for his family and many | ||||||
17 | friends; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Ted Koester was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
19 | his brother, Kenny Skinner; his stepfather, Larry Skinner; his | ||||||
20 | stepbrother, Chuck Tuggle; and his stepmother, Roberta; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Ted Koester is survived by his wife, Kelly; his | ||||||
22 | children, Ryan Littrell (Penny Tehrani), David (Sarah) |

2 | Abbey (Michael) Maloney, and Sean Garcia (Merissa Billhartz); | ||||||

10 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
11 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
12 | Teddy Gene "Ted" Koester and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
13 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
14 | further

15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
16 | presented to the family of Ted Koester as an expression of our | ||||||
