|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Raymond Nihlean, who passed away on |
4 | | November 11, 2022; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Raymond Nihlean was born to Raymond and Colleen |
6 | | Nihlean in Chicago on March 3, 1963; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Raymond Nihlean was a landlord with a heart; |
8 | | during the COVID-19 pandemic, he and his team connected |
9 | | renters with programs, including rent grants and resources for |
10 | | food; for one elderly tenant, he not only found her supportive |
11 | | senior housing and 24/7 caregivers, but he also made funeral |
12 | | arrangements with her pastor after her passing; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Raymond Nihlean was a philanthropist who provided |
14 | | resources to help other entrepreneurs flourish, including the |
15 | | Edgewater Uptown Builders Association (EUBA) and other |
16 | | community organizations; through EUBA, he personally provided |
17 | | and engineered state-of-the-art sound and visual equipment to |
18 | | help people communicate more effectively; he donated over |
19 | | $35,000 to help fund Northwestern University's Kellogg School |
20 | | of Management training program for local business owners who |
21 | | wanted to take their companies to the next level, and his |
22 | | donation led to the program receiving city funding; he also |

1 | | provided funding and materials for the painting of the mosaic |
2 | | at the gateway to the Bryn Mawr Historic District; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, Raymond Nihlean was committed to the Edgewater |
4 | | community and youth needs, mentoring many young people and |
5 | | being there for his neighbors; at local events, children and |
6 | | adults alike delighted in his convertible King Midget, a tiny |
7 | | red racing car with headlights that squirted water; for 15 |
8 | | years, he also loved racing; he enjoyed riding his red ATV |
9 | | snowplow on over two miles of sidewalks and alleys after a |
10 | | heavy snowfall so neighbors could safely leave their homes; |
11 | | and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Raymond Nihlean was known for his optimism, his |
13 | | contagious laugh, and his zest for life; he will be remembered |
14 | | for his generosity and his deeply felt joyfulness; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Raymond Nihlean was preceded in death by his |
16 | | parents and his parents-in-law, Gus and June Travlos; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Raymond Nihlean is survived by his wife of 21 |
18 | | years, Tina Travlos Nihlean; his sister-in-law, Elaine |
19 | | Travlos; his brother, Damian Nihlean; his sisters, Mary Henry |
20 | | and Juli Harmon; his nephews, Samuel Henry and Bentley Aiden |
21 | | Joyner; his nieces, Colleen and Amanda Nihlean; his cousins, |
22 | | Suzanne Cosgrove, Linn Nihlean, and Cathy Kubo; his many |

1 | | family members, friends, and colleagues; and his service dog, |
2 | | Baby Ray; therefore, be it

3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
4 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
5 | | Raymond Nihlean and extend our sincere condolences to his |
6 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
7 | | further

8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
|
9 | | presented to the family of Raymond Nihlean as an expression of
|
10 | | our deepest sympathy.
