SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Larry Dean Ehmen of Quincy, who passed
4away on January 4, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Larry Ehmen was born to E. Dale and Meveline
6Heinecke Ehmen in Quincy on January 16, 1940; he was raised in
7the area near Golden and graduated from Central High School in
81957; he received a Bachelor of Science in Physics and
9Mathematics from Western Illinois University in Macomb and a
10Master of Science in Natural Science from Rensselaer
11Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York; he married Reva Ann
12Post at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bowen on Thanksgiving Day,
13November 22, 1962; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Larry Ehmen taught high school physics at Central
15High School from 1961 to 1963 and at Quincy High School from
161963 to 1978; during his time at Quincy High School, he was one
17of the founders of the Quincy Conference; he was a co-owner of
18Fisher Business Equipment Company for 20 years and was also
19the co-owner and manager of Twin Mill Investments; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Larry Ehmen was elected Adams County Recorder
21with the intent to eliminate the position; he served from 2000
22until 2004 when the position was eliminated; he was a true

1statesman and gentleman when seeking resolution to complex
2issues; and
 
3    WHEREAS, During his life, Larry Ehmen was active in
4community affairs, including the Quincy Jaycees, the Quincy
5Exchange Club, the Adams County Republican Party in which he
6served as chairman for eight years, the United Way of Adams
7County, Transitions of Western Illinois, Mental Health
8Authority & Recovery Resources, the Adams County Board where
9he served as chairman for two years, Ellington Township where
10he served as supervisor for 43 years, and the Quincy Community
11Theater where he appeared in productions; he served on the
12Walter Hammond Day Care board for 25 years and was president of
13the board for 17 years; he served on the Western Illinois
14University Foundation Board for 25 years, including two years
15as president; he helped create the Great River Economic
16Development Foundation and served as the first president; he
17and his wife were co-presidents of the Illinois State
18University Parents Association during the time their children
19attended the University; he and his wife were members of
20Spring Lake Country Club for 30 years, and he served on the
21board; he was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church since
221962 where he served on several committees, held offices, and
23dedicated his last five years of volunteer service solely to
24the church; and

1    WHEREAS, Larry Ehmen was passionate about cars, but he was
2also a private pilot, rode motorcycles, and had pleasure boats
3on the river; he enjoyed working in his yard and instilling
4that passion in his children, whether they liked it or not; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his
6brother, Jim Ehmen; his sister-in-law, Charity Ehmen; and his
7brother-in-law, David White; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Larry Ehmen is survived by his wife of 60 years,
9Reva; his four children, Shelly (Doug) Quinn, Brad (Karol)
10Ehmen, Heidi (fiancé Parker Armbruster) Schlipman, and Ryan
11(Lynn) Ehmen; his 13 grandchildren, Hailey and Hayden Quinn,
12Lauren (fiancé Sam Triplett) Mueller, Maddi, Ella, and Anna
13Ehmen, Alex, Avery, and Alayna Schlipman, Peri Jane (fiancé
14Brendan Duffy) Ehmen, and Bennett, Rowan, and Josie Ehmen; his
15sister, Pat White; and several nieces and nephews; therefore,
16be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Larry Dean Ehmen and extend our sincere condolences to his
20family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
21further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
