SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
Appropriates $5,000,000 from the General Revenue Fund to the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity for grants to specified organizations as deemed appropriate by the Department for purposes of administering preapprenticeship workforce development programs that support education and training programming targeted to individuals under the age of 18 who reside in underserved areas in specified fields. Appropriates $5,000,000 from the General Revenue Fund to the Illinois Community College Board for grants to community college districts and public high schools for the purposes of administering the 21st Century Employment grant program. Effective July 1, 2023.

AN ACT concerning appropriations.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:
Section 5. The sum of $5,000,000, or so much of that sum as may be necessary, is appropriated from the General Revenue Fund to the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity for grants to community-based organizations, nonprofit entities, community colleges, private and public universities, and other organizations as deemed appropriate by the Department for purposes of administering preapprenticeship workforce development programs that support education and training programming targeted to individuals under the age of 18 who reside in underserved areas, as that term is defined under the Economic Development for a Growing Economy Tax Credit Act, in the areas of computer and information sciences, information technology, information sciences, computer sciences, computer systems networking and telecommunications, computer and information systems security or information assurances, management information systems, and other similar fields.
Section 10. The sum of $5,000,000, or so much of that sum as may be necessary, is appropriated from the General Revenue Fund to the Illinois Community College Board for grants to community college districts and public high schools for the purposes of administering the 21st Century Employment grant program.
Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect July 1, 2023.
