SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
New Act

    Creates the Redefining Science in Elementary Schools Task Force Act. Sets forth the members of the Task Force. Provides that the Task Force shall identify age-appropriate education for anatomy, physiology, and nutrition for each grade K-8. The Task Force shall use this knowledge to craft anatomy, physiology, and nutrition curriculum that allows students to learn about the human body. Provides that the curriculum shall be primarily focused on empowering students with the knowledge to adequately understand their own body and care for their own health and well being throughout their lives. Provides that members of the Task Force shall serve without compensation. Provides that the Task Force shall meet a minimum of 6 times, starting on August 1, 2023. Provides that by December 15, 2024, the Task Force shall produce a report for recommendations on K-8 grade anatomy, physiology, and nutrition and submit the report to the Governor, State Board of Education, and the General Assembly. Provides that this Act is repealed on January 1, 2025. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5Redefining Science in Elementary Schools Task Force Act.
 
6    Section 5. Task force.
7    (a) The Redefining Science in Elementary Schools Task
8Force is established. The Task Force shall consist of the
9following members:
10        (1) 9 members, who shall be current or former science
11    or health teachers who teach in the grades K-8 appointed
12    by the Chair of the State Board of Higher Education. One
13    teacher shall come from each grade level between grades
14    K-8;
15        (2) 2 members, who are doctors in the health field,
16    who shall be appointed by the Speaker of the House of
17    Representatives; and
18        (3) 2 members, who are doctors in the health field,
19    who shall be appointed by the President of the Senate; and
20    (b) The Task Force shall identify age-appropriate
21education for anatomy, physiology, and nutrition for each
22grade K-8. The Task Force shall use this knowledge to craft
23anatomy, physiology, and nutrition curriculum that allows

5    (c) The State Board of Education shall provide staff and
6other assistance for the Task Force.
7    (d) The members of the Task Force shall serve without
8compensation.
9    (e) The Task Force shall meet a minimum of 6 times,
10starting on August 1, 2023.
11    (f) By December 15, 2024, the Task Force shall produce a
12report for recommendations on K-8 grade anatomy, physiology,
13and nutrition and submit the report to the Governor, State
14Board of Education, and the General Assembly.
 
15    Section 90. Repealer. This Act is repealed on January 1,
162025.
 
17    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
18becoming law.
