2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by |
5 | | changing Section 12-803 as follows:
|
6 | | (625 ILCS 5/12-803) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-803)

7 | | Sec. 12-803.
(a) Each school bus shall be equipped with a |
8 | | stop signal
arm on the driver's side of the school bus that may |
9 | | be operated either manually
or mechanically. Each For each |
10 | | school bus manufactured on and after September 1,
1992, the |
11 | | stop signal arm shall be an octagon shaped semaphore that |
12 | | conforms to
49 C.F.R. 571.131, "SCHOOL BUS PEDESTRIAN SAFETY |
13 | | DEVICES", S5.1 through S5.5.

14 | | (b) Each school bus manufactured prior to September 1, |
15 | | 1992 shall be
equipped with a stop signal arm that conforms to |
16 | | standards promulgated by the
Department.

17 | | (c) A school bus may be equipped with an extension to the |
18 | | required stop arm that partially obstructs the roadway to |
19 | | ensure passenger safety. |
20 | | (d) A maximum of 2 extensions to the required stop arms may |
21 | | be installed on the driver's side of the school bus. |
22 | | (e) In addition to the lighting systems required under |
23 | | Section 12-805, each extension to the required stop arm must |
