HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Fire Chief Marty Feld of
4the Niles Fire Department on the occasion of his retirement
5after more than 38 years of service; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Fire Chief Feld began his career as a firefighter
7with the Niles Fire Department on October 5, 1986; he was
8promoted to lieutenant in 1996, serving as the department's
9paramedic coordinator for the next nine years; after being
10promoted to the rank of district chief in 2005, he developed
11training programs still in use today and created a
12return-to-work initiative for firefighters after extended
13leave; he also held a number of other roles, including EMS
14officer, training officer, and fire investigator; throughout
15his career, he maintained his status as a licensed paramedic
16in the State of Illinois; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Fire Chief Feld focused on efficiency and fiscal
18responsibility during his tenure as chief, securing $1.9
19million in grants to bolster department resources, including a
20Safer Grant to fill a staffing shortage, and joining the
21Ground Emergency Medical Transport program to obtain Medicaid
22reimbursement for ambulance service costs; further, he
23restored the much-needed deputy fire chief position and

1returned the 1941 Pirsch fire engine to Niles after many years
2away, and he was credited with reorganizing the organization
3into EMS, training, and operations divisions, improving its
4operational focus; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Fire Chief Feld helped navigate the Village of
6Niles through the COVID-19 pandemic while maintaining direct
7fire and EMS services to the community; he implemented new
8safety protocols, ensured the availability of protective
9equipment, and secured more than $800,000 in reimbursements
10for pandemic-related expenses from Cook County and the Federal
11Emergency Management Agency; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Fire Chief Feld has launched a number of public
13outreach initiatives, including annual pancake breakfasts and
14open houses, fire extinguisher training, and a smoke detector
15installation program responsible for installing over 1,500
16detectors in local homes; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Fire Chief Feld has been instrumental in fire
18truck and ambulance designs and builds over the years; he also
19worked on the Fire Station 3 renovation, and he has been
20actively involved in the new Fire Station 2 project; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Fire Chief Feld has had the strong support of his
22wife, three daughters, a granddaughter, his parents, and many

1siblings and extended family members; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Fire Chief Feld will conclude his career with the
3Niles Fire Department on November 30, 2024; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we congratulate Fire Chief Marty Feld of the Niles Fire
7Department on his retirement, and we thank him for his more
8than 38 years of service and dedication to the Village of Niles
9and the State of Illinois; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to Fire Chief Feld as an expression of our esteem and
12respect.
