HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Gail Dunkel on her
4retirement on December 31, 2024 and thank her for her 27 years
5of dedicated service to the Illinois General Assembly and the
6people of Illinois; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Gail Dunkel was born Gail Lynn Jones in
8Beardstown on January 12, 1964, the sixth child to parents
9Richard J. Jones and Imogene J. VanHaning; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Gail Dunkel was raised in Beardstown, where she
11played three years of high school basketball and two years of
12high school volleyball and was the captain of the pompom team;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, Gail Dunkel worked as a meat cutter and then meat
15inspector for Oscar Meyer before joining her sister, Jody, in
16running a local restaurant, the Side Door Cafe; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Gail Dunkel is a proud mother of two boys,
18Brandon and Reese, and she raised them on her own in Arenzville
19after her husband, Dale E. Dunkel, passed away; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Gail Dunkel moved to Springfield in 1998 and

1started her time in the Illinois General Assembly by working
2for two years at an information desk before moving to the House
3Post Office in 2000; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Gail Dunkel, throughout her extensive career with
5the General Assembly, worked under two House Speakers and
6three chiefs of staff; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Gail Dunkel, during her time in the House Post
8Office, has helped coordinate hundreds of thousands of pieces
9of mail on behalf of members of the General Assembly; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Gail Dunkel has been known to everyone who worked
11with her as a kind and courteous member of staff who was both
12diligent in her assigned duties and always willing to go
13beyond her remit to help other people; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Gail Dunkel is retiring to enjoy her winters in
15Gulf Shores, Alabama and her summers boating on the Illinois
16River; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we congratulate Gail Dunkel on the occasion of her retirement,
20we thank her for her many years of dedicated service to the
21Illinois General Assembly and the people of the State of

2years; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of the resolution be
4presented to Gail Dunkel as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
