HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Illinois PTA on 125 years of service to the children of the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, On May 30, 1900, the Illinois Congress of Mothers, now known as the Illinois Congress of Parents and Teachers (Illinois PTA) was chartered in Evanston under the tutelage of Kate McMullen, aided by local women's clubs, educators, and legal experts, to enhance and enrich the educational environment for all children and youth; and

WHEREAS, For 125 years, the Illinois PTA has been instrumental in striving to make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois PTA has been instrumental in providing resources for parents, including the implementation of programs to give parents a wide range of information designed to protect the health and well-being of children, youth, and families; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois PTA has been a strong advocate for children and families by securing the passage of legislation improving child labor laws, increasing the funding for public education, establishing and expanding kindergarten and early childhood programs, supporting the addition of school bus safety arms and juvenile justice initiatives, and improving certification standards for teachers; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois PTA has continuously worked to emphasize the need for families, schools, and communities to establish collaborative environments for the education of all students; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Illinois PTA on 125 years of continued commitment to the furtherance of its mission to advocate on behalf of children and families throughout the State of Illinois.
