HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Illinois PTA on 125
4years of service to the children of the State of Illinois; and
 
5    WHEREAS, On May 30, 1900, the Illinois Congress of
6Mothers, now known as the Illinois Congress of Parents and
7Teachers (Illinois PTA) was chartered in Evanston under the
8tutelage of Kate McMullen, aided by local women's clubs,
9educators, and legal experts, to enhance and enrich the
10educational environment for all children and youth; and
 
11    WHEREAS, For 125 years, the Illinois PTA has been
12instrumental in striving to make every child's potential a
13reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to
14advocate for all children; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The Illinois PTA has been instrumental in
16providing resources for parents, including the implementation
17of programs to give parents a wide range of information
18designed to protect the health and well-being of children,
19youth, and families; and
 
20    WHEREAS, The Illinois PTA has been a strong advocate for
21children and families by securing the passage of legislation

1improving child labor laws, increasing the funding for public
2education, establishing and expanding kindergarten and early
3childhood programs, supporting the addition of school bus
4safety arms and juvenile justice initiatives, and improving
5certification standards for teachers; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Illinois PTA has continuously worked to
7emphasize the need for families, schools, and communities to
8establish collaborative environments for the education of all
9students; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
11HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12we congratulate the Illinois PTA on 125 years of continued
13commitment to the furtherance of its mission to advocate on
14behalf of children and families throughout the State of
15Illinois.
