HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Illinois service members and veterans have
3demonstrated selflessness and service, and their families have
4made incredible sacrifices in service to our country; and
 
5    WHEREAS, A Gold Star family is the family of a military
6member who has died while valiantly serving in the U.S. Armed
7Forces; it is a term meant to honor the sacrifice of the
8service member while acknowledging the family's grief and
9healing; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Gold Star 500 raises funds to support
11scholarships in the name of fallen service members to ensure
12that we honor these heroes and that we always remember, never
13forget, the sacrifices of our fallen Illinois service members
14and their families; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The Gold Star Mission has awarded more than
16$283,000 in scholarships and oversees the Fallen Heroes
17History Project which tells the story of fallen service
18members; and
 
19    WHEREAS, The Gold Star 500 will continue to raise funds to
20support this mission and to honor our fallen service members
21by preserving their memory and continuing their legacy of

1service to others in need; and
 
2    WHEREAS, The 8th Annual Gold Star 500 Ride will begin in
3Metropolis on September 24, 2024 and continue for 512 miles
4across the State until riders reach the Ross Pearson VFW in
5Rockford on September 28, 2024; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we recognize the Gold Star 500, and we celebrate its mission to
9continue the legacy of Gold Star families; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That we pay tribute to our fallen service
11members and their families who have sacrificed so greatly for
12our freedom; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
14presented to the Gold Star Mission and the Ross Pearson VFW as
15an expression of our esteem and respect.
