1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION |
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate the Illinois Student |
4 | | Assistance Corps (ISACorps) on the occasion of its 15th |
5 | | anniversary; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, ISACorps members are recent college graduates who |
7 | | are trained to help students overcome barriers to education |
8 | | and training beyond high school; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, ISACorps members support students and their |
10 | | families as they explore and navigate postsecondary choices, |
11 | | apply to college, and seek financial aid and other resources; |
12 | | and |
13 | | WHEREAS, The ISACorps provides direct services statewide, |
14 | | ensuring that one-on-one help is in reach no matter where |
15 | | students live or what other resources their school districts |
16 | | are able to provide; and |
17 | | WHEREAS, The majority of ISACorps members have been the |
18 | | first in their families to have completed college and have |
19 | | lived or attended school in the area where they work, and this |
20 | | racially and geographically diverse group includes graduates |
21 | | from across the spectrum of Illinois colleges and universities |

1 | | and various academic paths; and |
2 | | WHEREAS, ISACorps alumni have advanced to work in policy |
3 | | positions, as practitioners, as employees and leaders, and in |
4 | | other important roles in educational institutions, community |
5 | | organizations, research and advocacy groups, and government; |
6 | | as a result, the organization has not only helped high school |
7 | | students directly but has also helped to establish a more |
8 | | representative face on education and public service in |
9 | | Illinois; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, The first ISACorps cohort began training 15 years |
11 | | ago in June 2009; since then, its members have served tens of |
12 | | thousands of Illinois students each year through financial aid |
13 | | presentations, FAFSA completion workshops, mentoring, and |
14 | | one-on-one assistance; and |
15 | | WHEREAS, The ISACorps have not only served high school |
16 | | students but have provided interventions at high-need middle |
17 | | schools under a federal GEAR UP grant, supported new college |
18 | | students through the First-Generation Scholars Network, and |
19 | | aided older students through community outreach, building and |
20 | | supporting services for regions and individuals that would |
21 | | otherwise have limited access to college access programs and |
22 | | support systems; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, Complications with the Free Application for |
2 | | Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2024-25 have highlighted the |
3 | | importance of personal assistance to ensure that Illinois |
4 | | families receive the financial assistance that they need to |
5 | | reach students' educational goals; therefore, be it |
6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
7 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
8 | | we congratulate the Illinois Student Assistance Corps |
9 | | (ISACorps) on its 15th anniversary, and we extend our |
10 | | gratitude to its members for their efforts to ensure that |
11 | | Illinois students and families have access to the |
12 | | transformational potential of education and training beyond |
13 | | high school. |
