| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Tom Walters on the | ||||||
| 4 | occasion of his retirement from Caterpillar; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Prior to joining Caterpillar, Tom Walters led a | ||||||
| 6 | 13-year career in government affairs with the State of | ||||||
| 7 | Illinois, including time spent as a legislative liaison with | ||||||
| 8 | the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Tom Walters joined Caterpillar as manager of | ||||||
| 10 | Illinois State Government Affairs in 1998, focusing on tax, | ||||||
| 11 | incentives, employment law, transportation, and environmental | ||||||
| 12 | public policy; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Tom Walters later became manager of U.S. State | ||||||
| 14 | Government Affairs, expanding his focus to defend against | ||||||
| 15 | legislative efforts that negatively impacted long-standing | ||||||
| 16 | dealer agreements and warranty practices, right to repair, and | ||||||
| 17 | captive finance concerns; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Tom Walters was named director of U.S. State and | ||||||
| 19 | Americas in 2015, leading an expanded U.S. state government | ||||||
| 20 | affairs team and international teams for covering government | ||||||
| 21 | affairs, public affairs, social responsibility, and visitors | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | centers in the United States, Brazil, and Mexico; and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Tom Walters has served as a leader at | ||||||
| 3 | Caterpillar, representing one of the world's largest | ||||||
| 4 | corporations on the boards of directors for the Illinois | ||||||
| 5 | Manufacturers' Association and the Illinois Chamber of | ||||||
| 6 | Commerce; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Tom Walters is recognized for his integrity, | ||||||
| 8 | leadership, and unwavering commitment to Caterpillar, earning | ||||||
| 9 | the respect of elected officials, Caterpillar colleagues and | ||||||
| 10 | leadership, and key stakeholder groups through his dedication | ||||||
| 11 | to the company's values and enthusiastic commitment to his | ||||||
| 12 | team and the company; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Outside of work, Tom Walters has a deep passion | ||||||
| 14 | for his church, the St. Louis Cardinals, and his community, | ||||||
| 15 | and he often volunteers for charitable causes; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Tom Walters and his wife, Meg, are the parents of | ||||||
| 17 | two children, Matt and Ryan; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Tom Walters is retiring from Caterpillar after 26 | ||||||
| 19 | years of admirable service, and he will be truly missed by his | ||||||
| 20 | colleagues; therefore, be it | ||||||

| 1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 2 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 3 | we congratulate Tom Walters on his retirement from | ||||||
| 4 | Caterpillar, and we wish him the best in all of his future | ||||||
| 5 | endeavors; and be it further | ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 7 | presented to Tom Walters as a symbol of our esteem and respect. | ||||||
