1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Those distinguished officers and citizens who | ||||||
3 | devote themselves to public service and duty, demonstrating | ||||||
4 | great courage and diligence in ensuring the safety of citizens | ||||||
5 | and communities in Illinois, deserve to be recognized; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Firefighters and police officers risk their lives | ||||||
7 | every day in the protection of life and property to ensure that | ||||||
8 | communities are safe, and sadly, many first responders are | ||||||
9 | lost in the line of duty, making the ultimate sacrifice in | ||||||
10 | their service to protect others; and | ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Firefighters, police officers, and first | ||||||
12 | responders are not only often valued, trusted, and upstanding | ||||||
13 | members of our communities but are also sons, brothers, | ||||||
14 | fathers, daughters, sisters, mothers, and siblings; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Since 1966, the 100 Club of Illinois has been | ||||||
16 | committed to making a difference in the lives of first | ||||||
17 | responders and their families; and | ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, The 100 Club of Illinois provides access to | ||||||
19 | training, mental health resources, and moral support to active | ||||||
20 | duty first responders throughout the State of Illinois; and |

1 | WHEREAS, The 100 Club of Illinois has worked to provide | ||||||
2 | support for the families of fallen first responders, including | ||||||
3 | direct financial assistance to families and educational | ||||||
4 | assistance for their dependents; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, The 100 Club of Illinois distributed $1.3 million | ||||||
6 | in direct funding to the families of fallen first responders | ||||||
7 | in 2023 and a total of nearly $5 million since 2020; and | ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, The 100 Club of Illinois is committed to creating | ||||||
9 | and advocating for new pathways towards resiliency in the | ||||||
10 | first responder community via access to culturally competent | ||||||
11 | resources, training, and funding; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, It is important to recognize Illinois' first | ||||||
13 | responders and their families, as those who have made the | ||||||
14 | ultimate sacrifice and who sacrifice every day for our safety, | ||||||
15 | and to recognize the critical support provided by the 100 Club | ||||||
16 | of Illinois to these heroes; therefore, be it | ||||||
17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
18 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
19 | we declare August 27, 2024 as Hero Day in the State of Illinois | ||||||
20 | and urge all Illinoisans to recognize those whose unwavering | ||||||
21 | commitment to public safety has earned them our great respect, | ||||||
22 | esteem, and gratitude. |
