2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to recognize the Junior League of |
4 | | Chicago, Inc. on its history of promoting civic welfare and |
5 | | advancing women leaders for the past 112 years; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Founded by Lucy McCormick Blair Linn in 1912, the |
7 | | Junior League of Chicago was initially established to elevate |
8 | | young women to the forefront of the industrial and social |
9 | | issues confronting Chicago, with members collectively working |
10 | | together to address those issues through positive and |
11 | | impactful change; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, Today, the Junior League of Chicago is a |
13 | | metropolitan nonprofit organization of women committed to |
14 | | promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of its |
15 | | members, and improving the community through effective action |
16 | | and leadership of trained volunteers; the organization reaches |
17 | | out to women of all races, religions, and national origins who |
18 | | demonstrate an interest in and a commitment to voluntarism; |
19 | | and |
20 | | WHEREAS, The Junior League of Chicago has remained |
21 | | dedicated to its mission, leading to the development and |
22 | | execution of significant projects in response to the evolving |

1 | | needs of the community; the organization has spearheaded a |
2 | | number of historic projects through the years, including the |
3 | | opening of the Chicago Children's Museum, the creation of the |
4 | | first Victim Witness Assistance program, the founding of the |
5 | | Junior Museum and Volunteer Guide Program at the Art Institute |
6 | | of Chicago, the funding of the first consultation clinic for |
7 | | epilepsy, and the opening of the first pediatric psychiatry |
8 | | center in the country, among others; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, The Junior League of Chicago has continued |
10 | | efforts to empower at-risk families through advocating for |
11 | | essential needs, literacy, and violence prevention and |
12 | | awareness; for over a century, the organization has partnered |
13 | | with various community organizations, non-profits, and schools |
14 | | to achieve its mission and has supported several entities |
15 | | through volunteerism and fundraising efforts, including the |
16 | | Chicago Public Library, Cradles to Crayons, Green City Market, |
17 | | Lincoln Park Community Services, Sarah's Circle, and Ronald |
18 | | McDonald House Charities; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Through its numerous partnerships, the Junior |
20 | | League of Chicago annually donates over 125,000 volunteer |
21 | | hours to agencies and programs supporting child welfare and |
22 | | education, and it also raises thousands of dollars each year |
23 | | to bolster the efforts of its collaborating community |
24 | | organizations; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, The Junior League of Chicago bestows on its |
2 | | members the opportunity to become exceptionally qualified |
3 | | civic leaders through camaraderie, mentorship, training, and |
4 | | its programs and activities; therefore, be it |
5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
6 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
7 | | we recognize the Junior League of Chicago, Inc. on its history |
8 | | of promoting civic welfare and advancing women leaders, and we |
9 | | wish the organization continued success in its endeavors; and |
10 | | be it further |
11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
12 | | presented to the Junior League of Chicago as an expression of |
13 | | our esteem and respect. |
