HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Neighborhood Housing 
4Services of Chicago, Inc. (NHS) on 49 years of serving as 
5advocates for economic inclusion and working to close the 
6racial wealth gap through homeownership; and
 
7    WHEREAS, NHS believes decent, safe, and affordable housing 
8is a human right, part of the American dream, and should be 
9available to all; and
 
10    WHEREAS, NHS has leveraged the expertise of many, working 
11with residents, community organizations, and corporate 
12partners to renew neighborhoods and rehabilitate homes 
13throughout the entire Chicago metropolitan area and Cook 
14County; and
 
15    WHEREAS, NHS helps first-time homebuyers through homebuyer 
16education, down payment assistance programs, and affordable 
17mortgage options; and
 
18    WHEREAS, NHS provides support and financial guidance to 
19those suffering under the crushing burden of student loan 
20debt; and

1    WHEREAS, NHS is committed to helping working families 
2strengthen their neighborhoods through community building, 
3real estate development, and housing policy; and
 
4    WHEREAS, NHS realizes that many have suffered due to 
5discriminatory practices and imbalanced lending practices, 
6particularly in some of the most challenging areas, and that 
7these practices contribute significantly to the persistent 
8racial wealth gap that NHS seeks to eliminate; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Housing quality serves as a visual and tangible 
10indicator of the health of a community and represents one of 
11the largest assets a neighborhood can cultivate and develop; 
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Homeownership brings stability to neighborhoods 
14decimated by decades of divestment; and
 
15    WHEREAS, NHS is at the forefront of creating the next 
16generation of affordable homes designed to accommodate the 
17ever-changing needs of today's families while being conscious 
18of the environmental responsibilities and challenges of the 
19future; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
21HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we congratulate Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago, Inc. 
2(NHS) on 49 years of advocating for economic inclusion and 
3working to close the racial wealth gap through homeownership, 
4and we wish them many more successful years; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
6presented to NHS as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
