HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Ann
4Lowery Lightfoot of Massillon, Ohio, who passed away on
5February 20, 2024; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Ann Lightfoot was born to Verdi Lowery and Annie
7Ruth Davis Lowery in Luverne, Alabama on September 6, 1928;
8moving to Ohio as part of the Great Migration, she graduated
9from Uhrichsville High School in 1946; she took postgraduate
10classes at Massillon Washington High School in 1949; she
11married Elijah Lightfoot on November 5, 1949; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Ann Lightfoot worked as a nurse's aide and care
13worker in various healthcare settings for most of her career;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Ann Lightfoot was a devoted and active member of
16St. James AME Zion Church in Massillon, where she served as a
17deaconess, on the Missionary Society, and as a class leader,
18among many other roles; she served in various volunteer,
19appointed, and elected roles in her community, including as a
20longtime member of the Massillon Board of Education; she was
21an advocate for the educational needs of her children and
22Massillon families; and

1    WHEREAS, Ann Lightfoot enjoyed cooking big family meals,
2serving at church, watching Massillon Tiger football games,
3and spending time with her grandchildren and
4great-grandchildren; she was a fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Ann Lightfoot was a devoted spouse, mother, and
7friend and a woman of deep faith; she knew the value of hard
8work, determination, and perseverance; she cared passionately
9about her family, friends, and her community; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Ann Lightfoot was preceded in death by her
11husband of more than 60 years, Elijah Lightfoot; her oldest
12son, Derrick E. Lightfoot; her sisters, Marie Jackson, Cumi
13Harris, and Mae Pearl Crable; her brother, Abraham Lowery; her
14brothers-in-law, Raleigh Lightfoot and Harrison "Sonny"
15Phillips; and other family members; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Ann Lightfoot is survived by her children, Angela
17Holdren, Brian P. Lightfoot, Lori E. (Amy Eshleman) Lightfoot,
18and Stacey L. (Tracy Smith) Smith; her sisters, Katie Gamble,
19Minnie (Bill Washington) Washington, and Hilda Lowery; her
20brother-in-law, Charles Long; and many grandchildren,
21great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends;
22therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we mourn the passing of Ann Lowery Lightfoot and extend our
4sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
5and loved her; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Ann Lightfoot as an expression of
8our deepest sympathy.
