2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Ann |
4 | | Lowery Lightfoot of Massillon, Ohio, who passed away on |
5 | | February 20, 2024; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Ann Lightfoot was born to Verdi Lowery and Annie |
7 | | Ruth Davis Lowery in Luverne, Alabama on September 6, 1928; |
8 | | moving to Ohio as part of the Great Migration, she graduated |
9 | | from Uhrichsville High School in 1946; she took postgraduate |
10 | | classes at Massillon Washington High School in 1949; she |
11 | | married Elijah Lightfoot on November 5, 1949; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, Ann Lightfoot worked as a nurse's aide and care |
13 | | worker in various healthcare settings for most of her career; |
14 | | and |
15 | | WHEREAS, Ann Lightfoot was a devoted and active member of |
16 | | St. James AME Zion Church in Massillon, where she served as a |
17 | | deaconess, on the Missionary Society, and as a class leader, |
18 | | among many other roles; she served in various volunteer, |
19 | | appointed, and elected roles in her community, including as a |
20 | | longtime member of the Massillon Board of Education; she was |
21 | | an advocate for the educational needs of her children and |
22 | | Massillon families; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, Ann Lightfoot enjoyed cooking big family meals, |
2 | | serving at church, watching Massillon Tiger football games, |
3 | | and spending time with her grandchildren and |
4 | | great-grandchildren; she was a fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers; |
5 | | and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Ann Lightfoot was a devoted spouse, mother, and |
7 | | friend and a woman of deep faith; she knew the value of hard |
8 | | work, determination, and perseverance; she cared passionately |
9 | | about her family, friends, and her community; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, Ann Lightfoot was preceded in death by her |
11 | | husband of more than 60 years, Elijah Lightfoot; her oldest |
12 | | son, Derrick E. Lightfoot; her sisters, Marie Jackson, Cumi |
13 | | Harris, and Mae Pearl Crable; her brother, Abraham Lowery; her |
14 | | brothers-in-law, Raleigh Lightfoot and Harrison "Sonny" |
15 | | Phillips; and other family members; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Ann Lightfoot is survived by her children, Angela |
17 | | Holdren, Brian P. Lightfoot, Lori E. (Amy Eshleman) Lightfoot, |
18 | | and Stacey L. (Tracy Smith) Smith; her sisters, Katie Gamble, |
19 | | Minnie (Bill Washington) Washington, and Hilda Lowery; her |
20 | | brother-in-law, Charles Long; and many grandchildren, |
21 | | great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends; |
22 | | therefore, be it |

1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
2 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
3 | | we mourn the passing of Ann Lowery Lightfoot and extend our |
4 | | sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew |
5 | | and loved her; and be it further |
6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 | | presented to the family of Ann Lightfoot as an expression of |
8 | | our deepest sympathy. |
