HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Deborah Lane on the
4occasion of her retirement from the Chicago Transit Authority;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Deborah Lane has been a member of her union for 31
7years and has served in a number of positions, including as
8former president of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU)
9Illinois Joint Conference and as financial secretary of the
10Amalgamated Transit Union - Local 308; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Deborah Lane has deep ties to the labor movement
12in Illinois; in 1953, she first took a union steward class, and
13in 2017, she was mentored by the legendary Chicago Teachers
14Union President Karen Lewis; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Deborah Lane, as the head of the ATU Illinois
16Joint Conference, represented 15 union locals and almost
1720,000 members from across the State of Illinois; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Deborah Lane is a fighter for working people; she
19assisted in the process of winning important benefits for
20workers in the 2018 ATU-CTA contract, which included pay
21increases of 9.5% and a freeze on healthcare increases for her

1membership; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Deborah Lane has played an integral role in
3electing Democrats across the country, including President
4Joseph Biden, Governor J.B. Pritzker, Mayor Lori Lightfoot,
5and Senator Warnock; most recently, she served as campaign
6manager for Congressman Jonathan Jackson; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Deborah Lane's family is just as important to her
8as her work; she is the proud mother of three, Errin, Erwin,
9and Nicholas, and is the daughter of Mamie L. Cosey and the
10late Rev. Richard C. Cosey; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we congratulate Deborah Lane on her retirement from the
14Chicago Transit Authority; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to Deborah Lane as a symbol of our respect and
17esteem.
