2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Bruce |
4 | | Simon of Springfield, who passed away on October 23, 2023; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Bruce Simon was born to Fred and Nancy (Fell) |
6 | | Simon in Chicago on December 9, 1948; he earned his bachelor's |
7 | | degree in political science from Indiana State University, |
8 | | where he was student body president; he served as a medic and |
9 | | drug counselor in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War; he |
10 | | married Marguerite Feeley on July 25, 1987; and |
11 | | WHEREAS, Bruce Simon worked for Indiana U.S. Senator Vance |
12 | | Hartke and then as a legislative liaison at a variety of state |
13 | | agencies providing human services; after leaving state |
14 | | government, he had a successful career as a lobbyist for more |
15 | | than 25 years, primarily representing clients in healthcare |
16 | | related fields; he was also a co-founder of The Association of |
17 | | Safety Net Community Hospitals in Illinois and helped to |
18 | | establish the Medicaid data warehouse; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Bruce Simon was involved in many community |
20 | | programs, including serving as a member of the Springfield |
21 | | Public School Foundation; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, Bruce Simon was the recipient of many awards for |
2 | | outstanding public service; and |
3 | | WHEREAS, Bruce Simon was a lifelong Chicago White Sox fan, |
4 | | and he was a proud founding member of the bipartisan White Sox |
5 | | Caucus in Springfield; he cherished spending time with his |
6 | | family, including going to the movies and on family vacations |
7 | | to Disney World, Coronado, Michigan, and Ireland; and |
8 | | WHEREAS, Bruce Simon will be remembered as a selfless, |
9 | | thoughtful, and compassionate man; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, Bruce Simon was preceded in death by his parents; |
11 | | his brothers, Ed Simon and Bobby Simon; his nephew, Tom |
12 | | Zimmerman; and his parents-in-law, Jim Feeley and Mary Beth |
13 | | Feeley; and |
14 | | WHEREAS, Bruce Simon is survived by his wife; his |
15 | | children, Eileen (Patrick) Besler, Mary Kate Simon, and |
16 | | Michael Simon; his grandchildren, Peter Patrick and William |
17 | | Bruce Besler; his sisters, Leslie (Bob) Zimmerman and Mary |
18 | | (Mike) Groves; his brothers, Dave (Karen) Simon, Gerry (Donna) |
19 | | Simon, Mike Simon, and Danny (Alison) Simon; his aunt, Fran |
20 | | Fell; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, |
21 | | and sisters-in-law; therefore, be it |

1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
2 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
3 | | we mourn the passing of Bruce Simon and extend our sincere |
4 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
5 | | him; and be it further |
6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 | | presented to the family of Bruce Simon as an expression of our |
8 | | deepest sympathy. |
