HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Bruce
4Simon of Springfield, who passed away on October 23, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bruce Simon was born to Fred and Nancy (Fell)
6Simon in Chicago on December 9, 1948; he earned his bachelor's
7degree in political science from Indiana State University,
8where he was student body president; he served as a medic and
9drug counselor in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War; he
10married Marguerite Feeley on July 25, 1987; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Bruce Simon worked for Indiana U.S. Senator Vance
12Hartke and then as a legislative liaison at a variety of state
13agencies providing human services; after leaving state
14government, he had a successful career as a lobbyist for more
15than 25 years, primarily representing clients in healthcare
16related fields; he was also a co-founder of The Association of
17Safety Net Community Hospitals in Illinois and helped to
18establish the Medicaid data warehouse; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Bruce Simon was involved in many community
20programs, including serving as a member of the Springfield
21Public School Foundation; and

1    WHEREAS, Bruce Simon was the recipient of many awards for
2outstanding public service; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Bruce Simon was a lifelong Chicago White Sox fan,
4and he was a proud founding member of the bipartisan White Sox
5Caucus in Springfield; he cherished spending time with his
6family, including going to the movies and on family vacations
7to Disney World, Coronado, Michigan, and Ireland; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Bruce Simon will be remembered as a selfless,
9thoughtful, and compassionate man; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Bruce Simon was preceded in death by his parents;
11his brothers, Ed Simon and Bobby Simon; his nephew, Tom
12Zimmerman; and his parents-in-law, Jim Feeley and Mary Beth
13Feeley; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Bruce Simon is survived by his wife; his
15children, Eileen (Patrick) Besler, Mary Kate Simon, and
16Michael Simon; his grandchildren, Peter Patrick and William
17Bruce Besler; his sisters, Leslie (Bob) Zimmerman and Mary
18(Mike) Groves; his brothers, Dave (Karen) Simon, Gerry (Donna)
19Simon, Mike Simon, and Danny (Alison) Simon; his aunt, Fran
20Fell; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law,
21and sisters-in-law; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we mourn the passing of Bruce Simon and extend our sincere
4condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
5him; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Bruce Simon as an expression of our
8deepest sympathy.
