2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Nora Ann |
4 | | (James) Laureto of Berwyn, who passed away on September 23, |
5 | | 2023; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Nora Laureto was born on July 19, 1954; she |
7 | | attended St. Mary of Celie grammar school, Morton West High |
8 | | School, and Morton College; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, Nora Laureto retired from the University of |
10 | | Chicago Department of Orthopedic Surgery after 22 years of |
11 | | service; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, Nora Laureto served as the 8th Ward Alderwoman |
13 | | and was a constant leader on the boards of the Berwyn Public |
14 | | Library, the park districts, and the Berwyn Development |
15 | | Corporation Board of Directors, serving as treasurer for three |
16 | | terms; she was a contributing member of the Roosevelt Road |
17 | | Association and past president and a founding member of the |
18 | | District 98 Education Foundation; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Nora Laureto lived a life of service to the City |
20 | | of Berwyn community as an impactful and compassionate leader |
21 | | who dedicated her life to volunteering and improving the lives |

1 | | of all who call Berwyn home; her passion to serve the community |
2 | | earned her the Charles E. Piper Award in 2015, a prestigious |
3 | | award that recognizes one outstanding person from the |
4 | | community for their contributions to Berwyn's vitality; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Nora Laureto was most proud of helping accomplish |
6 | | the relocation of the Lincoln, the Friendly Neighbor statue in |
7 | | front of Lincoln Middle School; she launched the Pennies for |
8 | | Lincoln campaign to fund the relocation to enhance the |
9 | | school's campus with public art; she worked alongside |
10 | | countless students, parents, and community members to make the |
11 | | fundraiser a success; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, Nora Laureto was the beloved wife of Tony Laureto |
13 | | for 47 years; the devoted mother of Michael (Madalyn) Laureto |
14 | | and MaryBeth Georges; and the fond grandmother of Abigail, |
15 | | Charlotte, Everleigh, and Sawyer; therefore, be it |
16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
17 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
18 | | we mourn the passing of Nora Ann Laureto and extend our sincere |
19 | | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
20 | | her; and be it further |
21 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
