HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Deputy Chief Jesse
4Gonzalez on the occasion of his retirement from the Village of
5Gurnee Police Department; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Gonzalez joined the Gurnee Police
7Department as a patrol officer in 1988; his unwavering
8commitment and exceptional work ethic quickly propelled him
9through the ranks, earning him a position as a member of the
10Entry Team with the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System
11(NIPAS) in 1992 for seven years; during this time, he
12responded to hostage/barricade incidents, high-risk warrant
13services, and major crime scene searches; and
 
14    WHEREAS, In 1999, Deputy Chief Gonzalez began serving as a
15detective within the Gurnee Police Investigations Division,
16where he served for 19 years and solved many complicated
17cases, including bank robberies, kidnappings, sexual assaults,
18armed robberies, shootings, and other heinous crimes; he
19simultaneously served with the Lake County Major Crime Task
20Force from 2001 to 2012, working on over 120 Lake County cases,
21including homicides, officer-involved shootings, kidnapping,
22and in-custody deaths; he was designated as commander of the
23task force from 2011 to 2012, showcasing his unyielding

1dedication to solving complex cases, leading teams, and
2upholding justice; and
 
3    WHEREAS, In November 2014, Deputy Chief Gonzalez took on
4the role of commander of Investigations; his strategic
5thinking, dedication, and relentless pursuit of justice
6defined his tenure, setting the stage for even greater
7responsibilities; in October 2018, he was appointed acting
8deputy chief of Operations, showcasing his ability to oversee
9complex operations with expertise; his commitment to this role
10led to his promotion to deputy chief in May 2019; and
 
11    WHEREAS, During his tenure with the Gurnee Police
12Department, Deputy Chief Gonzalez also mentored new officers
13as a field training officer, shared knowledge as an instructor
14of the Rapid Deployment training program, and oversaw Rapid
15Deployment; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Gonzalez's exceptional achievements
17were met with numerous unit citations, letters of recognition,
18and letters of commendation; among his many accolades, he was
19named the Exchange Club Policeman of the Year in 1994, the
20Pioneer Press Best of the Best of Lake County Officer in 1997,
21and the Gurnee Officer of the Year in 1994 and 2004; he also
22received the National Crime Victims' Rights Week Law
23Enforcement Award from the Lake County Advocacy Center in 2009

1and the Crime Response Pillar Award in 2014; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Gonzalez's remarkable, 35-year law
3enforcement career with the Gurnee Police Department has left
4an indelible mark on our community and beyond, making him the
5longest-serving police officer in the department's history;
6therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we congratulate Deputy Chief Jesse Gonzalez on his retirement
10from the Village of Gurnee Police Department, and we express
11our gratitude for his service, leadership, and the lasting
12impact he has made on the Village of Gurnee and the State of
13Illinois; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to Deputy Chief Gonzalez as an expression of our
16esteem and respect.
