2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Ronald Johnson, | ||||||
4 | M.D. on receiving the 2023 Rural Physician Lifetime of Service | ||||||
5 | Award from the Illinois Rural Health Association; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across | ||||||
7 | our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural | ||||||
8 | settings; and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson graduated from the Southern Illinois | ||||||
10 | University School of Medicine in 1977; and | ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson completed his residency in family | ||||||
12 | practice at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale in 1980; and | ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, After finishing his residency, Dr. Johnson began | ||||||
14 | his service at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, where | ||||||
15 | he has held various leadership positions through the years, | ||||||
16 | including president of medical staff, chief of emergency room, | ||||||
17 | chief of obstetrics, and chief of respiratory therapy; and | ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson started his own practice, Pike County | ||||||
19 | Family Practice, in Pittsfield in 1980; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson opened the Winchester Family Practice | ||||||
2 | to expand access to care across a wider geographic area in | ||||||
3 | 1990; and | ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson has dedicated his time and expertise | ||||||
5 | for many years at the state level by serving as a member of the | ||||||
6 | Bureau of Medical Integrity for the Office of the Inspector | ||||||
7 | General and the Illinois Department of Financial and | ||||||
8 | Professional Regulation's Medical Disciplinary Board; and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson also served at the national level on | ||||||
10 | the Federation of State Medical Boards Accreditation Council | ||||||
11 | for Continuing Medical Education as the Illinois | ||||||
12 | Representative of State Medical Licensing Boards in | ||||||
13 | Washington, D.C.; and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, As an employed physician of Duly Health and Care, | ||||||
15 | Dr. Johnson continues to serve generations of patients at | ||||||
16 | Quincy Medical Group; and | ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Having volunteered his time as an associate | ||||||
18 | teaching physician at the SIU Family Practice in Quincy, Dr. | ||||||
19 | Johnson has proctored and mentored countless medical students | ||||||
20 | not only on family medicine but on the art of communication and | ||||||
21 | care for patients through empathy, respect, and the art of | ||||||
22 | listening; and |

1 | WHEREAS, When not practicing medicine, Dr. Johnson and his | ||||||
2 | wife can be found traveling the world; therefore, be it | ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
4 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
5 | we congratulate Ronald Johnson, M.D. on receiving the 2023 | ||||||
6 | Rural Physician Lifetime of Service Award from the Illinois | ||||||
7 | Rural Health Association and commend him for his compassion | ||||||
8 | and dedication to his patients and for filling such a | ||||||
9 | tremendous void in rural medicine for over 40 years in west | ||||||
10 | central Illinois; and be it further | ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to Dr. Johnson as a symbol of our respect and esteem. |
