2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Sandra | ||||||
4 | Gardner, who passed away on May 22, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Sandra Gardner was born to Obie and Mary Gardner | ||||||
6 | on December 6, 1954; she attended Francis W. Parker School in | ||||||
7 | Chicago, where she sang in the a capella choir; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Sandra Gardner worked at Rush Presbyterian | ||||||
9 | Hospital and JMB Realty; she retired in 2019 from Northwestern | ||||||
10 | Hospital after 30 years of service; and | ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Sandra Gardner was a member of Starlight St. | ||||||
12 | James M.B. Church and developed a commitment to serving | ||||||
13 | others; she joined the choir, singing soprano, and was excited | ||||||
14 | about going to rehearsals, learning new songs, and traveling | ||||||
15 | with the choir; she also served in the Willing Workers Club; | ||||||
16 | she then joined Crusaders Church in 1990; she loved children | ||||||
17 | and was placed over the children's ministry, where she | ||||||
18 | mothered them and treated them like her own; she enrolled in | ||||||
19 | the New Members class, where she bonded with her class and said | ||||||
20 | they were like family; she was a faithful member on the deacons | ||||||
21 | board, serving and ministering to others in need; she traveled | ||||||
22 | with church members on missions to Addis Ababa Ethiopia, the |

1 | Czech Republic, and parts of the United States; she was later | ||||||
2 | ordained as a prophetess; and | ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Sandra Gardner loved traveling and going to | ||||||
4 | church conferences, picnics, and trips with the family; one of | ||||||
5 | her favorite times was being with her son and family every 4th | ||||||
6 | of July; she looked forward to staying overnight to watch | ||||||
7 | fireworks or just visit; she was known as "Nana" to her | ||||||
8 | grandchildren, and being with them was what she would talk | ||||||
9 | about the most; she was so happy to see them achieve their | ||||||
10 | goals, and she would reward them knowing that would make them | ||||||
11 | work harder to receive more surprises; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Sandra Gardner gave of herself in many ways; she | ||||||
13 | happily donated her time, a ride, a home cooked meal, clothes, | ||||||
14 | or her ear to listen; she enjoyed serving others; she had a | ||||||
15 | bubbly personality, and it was a joy to be in her presence; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Sandra Gardner loved her siblings, nieces, and | ||||||
17 | nephews; she always looked forward to spending time with them | ||||||
18 | and was glad when the family would meet; cooking was her forte, | ||||||
19 | and she especially loved when family gathered for birthdays | ||||||
20 | and holidays; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Sandra Gardner was preceded in death by her | ||||||
22 | father, Obie; her brother, Melvin Gardner; and her sister, |

1 | Dorothy Thompson; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Sandra Gardner is survived by her mother, Mary | ||||||
3 | Gardner; her son, DeJaun (Crystal) Gardner; her grandchildren, | ||||||
4 | Kahari, Kiari, and Kaeden; her sisters, Sarah Butler, Annie | ||||||
5 | Travis, Mary McKinley, Gloria (Tyrone) Willis, and Joyce | ||||||
6 | Gardner; her brothers, Jimmie (Florida) Gardner and Leonard | ||||||
7 | Gardner; her aunt, Cora Hudson; and numerous nieces, nephews, | ||||||
8 | and friends; therefore, be it

9 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
10 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
11 | we mourn the passing of Sandra Gardner and extend our sincere | ||||||
12 | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
13 | her; and be it further

14 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
15 | presented to the family of Sandra Gardner as an expression of | ||||||
16 | our deepest sympathy.
