2 | | WHEREAS, On November 10, 1775, the Continental Congress |
3 | | authorized the formation of two battalions of Marines in |
4 | | Philadelphia, beginning what would become the United States |
5 | | Marine Corps; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, The U.S. Marine Corps has protected Americans and |
7 | | guarded their freedom for 248 years, serving with distinction |
8 | | in all wars in which the United States has been involved; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, As the United States established a position of |
10 | | world leadership, the Marines have proven themselves as |
11 | | dedicated professionals willing to defend the lives and rights |
12 | | of Americans and of our allies of freedom around the world; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Since the formation of the Marines, the term |
14 | | "Marine" has been associated with courage and military |
15 | | proficiency; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, The residents of Illinois are proud of the |
17 | | State's rich contribution to the Marine tradition and respect |
18 | | the Marines serving around the globe; therefore, be it

19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
