HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Maggie
4Mozell Singleton; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Maggie Singleton was born to Willie Jones and
6Theodore McFadden in Carthage, Mississippi on May 11, 1932;
7she and her siblings tragically lost their mother and were
8raised by their maternal grandmother, Levonia Banks; she
9attended Pilgrim Rest Elementary School and graduated from
10Leake County Agricultural High School; she married Andrew D.
11"A.D." Singleton Sr. in October of 1950, and they eventually
12settled in Chicago; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Maggie Singleton, while she never worked outside
14of her home, was gifted at managing household finances and
15budgeting; her skills enabled the family to move from
16Chicago's Englewood neighborhood to the middle-class
17neighborhood of Chatham in 1963; while there, they supported
18numerous extended family members who also migrated from
19Mississippi to Chicago; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Maggie Singleton's family meant the world to her;
21she was the consummate homemaker and an excellent cook; she
22instilled a strong work ethic in all of her children and

1strongly believed in education; all of her children graduated
2from high school and several went on to complete college, with
3some earning advanced degrees as well; her faith was important
4to her, and she mandated her children attend church on
5Sundays; her oldest son, Andrew, became the founder and pastor
6of Victory Apostolic Church, where she and her husband became
7members at its inception in 1996; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Maggie Singleton was the "First Mother" of
9Victory Apostolic Church; she was dearly loved by the
10congregation and faithfully participated in the Seniors Small
11Group Ministry, where she made many friends; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Maggie Singleton was known for her amazing sense
13of humor, her infectious laughter, and for being very
14personable; she loved talking on the phone, especially to her
15family and close friends, and often began making her daily
16phone calls before 5:00 a.m.; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Maggie Singleton was preceded in death by her
18husband of 63 years, Andrew; her twin sons, Keith and Kevin;
19her brothers, Robert "R.D." and Albert; and her sister, Wilma
20"Faye" Hillman; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Maggie Singleton is survived by her children,
22Andrew D. (Brenda) Singleton Jr., Linda (Larry) Bell, Earnest

1"Petey" Singleton, Nyabingi (Theresa) Kuti, and Eddie Terrell
2Singleton; her grandchildren, Takara (Bryant) Warren, Karena
3(Billy) Bundy, Andrew D. (Dominique) Singleton III, Lauren
4(Jeremy) Toles, and Brian Bell; eight great-grandchildren; her
5brother, Earnest McFadden; and numerous nephews, nieces,
6extended relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we mourn the passing of Maggie Mozell Singleton and extend our
10sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
11and loved her; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Maggie Singleton as an expression
14of our deepest sympathy.
