HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Illinois
4Manufacturers' Association on the occasion of its 130th
5anniversary; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Illinois Manufacturers' Association began
7serving the manufacturers of Illinois in 1893, with the first
8meeting held at the Medinah Temple in Chicago; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The Illinois Manufacturers' Association is the
10oldest and one of the largest state manufacturing trade
11associations in the United States, representing more than
124,000 manufacturing facilities; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Manufacturing contributes the single-largest
14share (14%) of the State's gross state product (GSP) with a
15$580 billion economic impact in 2022; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Illinois manufacturing directly provides between
17628,418 and 662,298 jobs, 9.5% of total employment in
18Illinois, with an average annual wage of almost $80,000 and
19indirectly supports between 1.68 million and 1.77 million
20jobs; these jobs compose 29.6% of Illinois total employment;
21and

1    WHEREAS, Manufacturers feed the world, make life saving
2products, power our homes and businesses, build our
3infrastructure, transport people and products around the
4globe, and provide for our nation's defense; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Manufacturing makes the world a better place to
6live every single day, and manufacturers are the innovators
7and entrepreneurs, the builders and producers, the dreamers
8and leaders of America, and the solution to many of the
9challenges facing our State and nation; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Illinois Manufacturers' Association is one of
11the greatest contributing factors to manufacturing success in
12Illinois, standing as an advocate and leading voice for
13industry across the State; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The Illinois Manufacturers' Association and the
15IMA Education Foundation are focused on education and
16workforce to build a pipeline of workers for the manufacturing
17sector, which includes championing two new manufacturing
18academies, Career and Technical Education in K-12 schools, and
19an apprenticeship tax credit; and
 
20    WHEREAS, The Illinois Manufacturers' Association's
21Education Foundation provides scholarships to high school

1students who enroll in manufacturing courses as well as
2scholarships to community college students that are studying
3skilled trades across the State; and
 
4    WHEREAS, In 2020, the Illinois Manufacturers' Association
5created Makers Madness: The Coolest Thing Made in Illinois,
6generating a competitive spirit among manufacturers in the
7State to showcase the innovation and ingenuity of our State's
8manufacturing sector; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The Illinois Manufacturers' Association hosted
10its inaugural Makers on the Move bus tour to celebrate
11Manufacturing Month in October 2022 across the State to
12spotlight the great work Illinois' manufacturers do every day
13and showcase modern manufacturing that is high-tech, clean,
14diverse, and sustainable; in 2022, the Makers on the Move bus
15tour made 20 stops at manufacturing facilities, colleges, and
16high schools throughout the State and logged approximately
172,100 miles in seven days by visiting and highlighting
18exciting job opportunities in the diverse and innovative
19industry; and
 
20    WHEREAS, The Illinois Manufacturers' Association's Women
21in Illinois Manufacturing Council was created to provide
22connection, education, mentorship, and fellowship to support
23current women in the industry and encourage the next

1generation; this active and engaged group has come together to
2network and learn from each other, to learn about personal
3development, and to intentionally showcase opportunities that
4encourage girls in STEM careers; and
 
5    WHEREAS, During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Illinois
6Manufacturers' Association played an integral part in
7identifying essential manufacturers for producing life-saving
8products for first responders and health care professions; the
9IMA was asked by Governor JB Pritzker to co-chair the State's
10Equipment Task Force and was appointed by Chicago Mayor Lori
11Lightfoot to lead the B2B Recovery Group that included
12manufacturing, transportation, warehousing, construction, and
13utilities in the State; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The Illinois Manufacturers' Association hosted
15its first annual Moving Makers Forward Education Summit in
162022 that featured manufacturers, local economic development
17councils, educators, and recruitment experts; panelists deeply
18explored the current worker shortage, building a regional
19talent pipeline, legislative proposals to assist with
20expanding career exploration, and company culture that could
21provide real solutions to incorporate in addressing local
22workforce crises; and
 
23    WHEREAS, The Illinois Manufacturers' Association was named

1by the American Society of Association Executives as one of
2the 100 Associations Saving the World for their efforts to
3increase production of essential items, foster collaboration
4by companies, increase efficiency, and address regulator
5challenges; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Illinois Manufacturers' Association won the
7inaugural 2022 Leadership Award from the Conference of State
8Manufacturers Associations (COSMA) for their work to attract
9and maintain the manufacturing workforce and for the
10innovative ways they have helped their members address
11workforce challenges; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
13HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we congratulate the Illinois Manufacturers' Association on its
15130th anniversary; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That we commend the Illinois Manufacturers'
17Association for their commitment to advocating for Illinois
18manufacturers and for recognizing the work Illinois
19manufacturers do every day for our State and the nation; and be
20it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That we thank Illinois manufacturers, their
22employees, and the Illinois Manufacturers' Association for

2workforce development, and we wish the IMA continued success;
