HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Darrell Levell "Mr. 
4Wimbo" Wimberly on 19 years of service to Marion High School 
5and recognize him for his positive impact on  the lives of 
6thousands of Marion students, parents, residents, and 
7community members; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly was born in Louisville, Kentucky 
9on August 23, 1961; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly was a standout athlete at Butler 
11High School in Louisville, where he starred in football and 
12basketball; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly attended the University of 
14Louisville from 1978 to 1982 and found great success as a 
15linebacker; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly tried out for the NFL with the 
17New York Jets, but life had bigger plans for him; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly had a successful career selling 
19insurance for Commonwealth Life Insurance in the Louisville 
20area for 20 years; and

1    WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly moved to Marion in the year 
22000, where he sold insurance for five years before applying 
3for a job with Marion High School; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly worked as a volunteer football 
5coach at Marion High School starting in
2000; he became the 
6dean of students at Marion High School in July 2002 and  worked 
7as an administrator, football coach, and basketball coach for 
8more than 20 years; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly has served as a mentor, 
10advocate, and role model for thousands of Marion High School 
11athletes and students, bettering their lives; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly has served as pastor at East 
13Liberty Church in rural Marion since 2002, where he has helped 
14lead several Marion residents through their spiritual 
15journeys; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly served as a guest speaker, 
17prayer leader, and preacher at various Marion area weddings, 
18funerals, vigils, and community gatherings and served on 
19countless boards, committees, and community organizations; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, With his positivity, Darrell Wimberly has

1provided inspiration and guidance to his fellow coaches, 
2administrators, and teachers through his service to students 
3and his community; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly married Deon Wimberly on 
5December 22, 1994 and is the proud and dedicated father of five 
6children; therefore, be it
  
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
8HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
9we congratulate Darrell Levell "Mr. Wimbo" Wimberly on 19 
10years of service to Marion High School and wish him the very 
11best  for the future in recognition of his retirement from 
12education; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That we recognize Darrell Wimberly for his 
14positive impact on  the lives of thousands of Marion students, 
15parents, residents, and community members; and be it further
 
  
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to Darrell Wimberly as a symbol of our respect and 
18esteem.
