HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Raymond
4Frank "Ray" Goodbody of Waukegan, who passed away on September
56, 2022; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Ray Goodbody was born to Arthur and Florence
7Goodbody on June 24, 1950; he was a lifelong Waukegan
8resident; growing up, he worked at the family's flower farm,
9which supplied flowers to retail shops throughout the Chicago
10area and also grew vegetables to sell at local farm stands; he
11attended Glen Flora Elementary School and Daniel Webster
12Junior High School before graduating from Waukegan Township
13High School in 1968; and
 
14    WHEREAS, After high school, Ray Goodbody apprenticed as an
15auto mechanic through the Chrysler Corporation, eventually
16becoming a master mechanic with the company; he also attained
17his Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Ray Goodbody was a member of the International
19Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Mechanics'
20Union Local 701, where he was held in high esteem by his fellow
21Local 701 members and was elected to represent them as a
22delegate in the Northeastern Illinois Federation of Labor,

1AFL-CIO; as a delegate, he proudly attended many rallies,
2events, conferences, and state conventions on behalf of his
3union brothers and sisters, always advocating for their
4interests and well-being; and
 
5    WHEREAS, After an on-the-job injury and experiencing
6dissatisfaction with the benefits process, Ray Goodbody began
7to study the Illinois Workers' Compensation Act, embarking on
8efforts to promote change and eventually becoming an informal
9point person to provide the General Assembly with a labor
10perspective on the workers' compensation process; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Ray Goodbody served as a deputy voter registrar
12for Lake County, and he voted in every election; he was a
13member of both the Illinois Labor History Society and the Zion
14Benton Moose Lodge; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Ray Goodbody enjoyed both good cuisine and the
16culinary arts, and he was a winner in a City of Waukegan Rib
17Cookoff; he loved spending time in his garden, where he grew a
18variety of vegetables; he often took his crop to the Lake
19County Fair and won awards several times, including Best of
20Show; he also loved cars and auto racing, and he could often be
21found near the starting line at the Route 66 Raceway in Joliet
22or at the Rockford Speedway; he especially enjoyed the dirt
23track racing and tractor pulls perennially held at the

1Illinois State Fair; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Ray Goodbody was a natural leader and a friend to
3all, treating others with patience and compassion; he also had
4a talent for being able to find adventures anywhere he went;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Ray Goodbody was preceded in death by his
7parents, aunts, and uncles; and
 
8    WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Ray Goodbody was
9survived by his partner, Joan Welton; his cousins, George
10Rasmussen, Ken Rasmussen, and Alice Cameron; and his many
11friends, colleagues, and acquaintances; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
13HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we mourn the passing of Raymond Frank "Ray" Goodbody and
15extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all
16who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Ray Goodbody as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
