|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to recognize Sonali Patil, Ph.D., on her |
4 | | service to the Hawthorn District 73 Board of Education; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Patil has resided in Vernon Hills with her |
6 | | husband and two children for 22 years; she has a bachelor's |
7 | | degree in pharmaceutical sciences from the University of |
8 | | Bombay in India and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the |
9 | | University of Illinois at Chicago; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Patil served on the Hawthorn District 73 |
11 | | Board of Education from April 2015 to April 2023; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Patil previously served as board president |
13 | | from April 2017 to April 2019; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, During her tenure as president, Dr. Patil led the |
15 | | Board of Education through placing the second referendum on |
16 | | the ballot and educating the community about the EFMP, |
17 | | researched options for interim superintendents and guided the |
18 | | board through the subsequent interview and hiring process, |
19 | | considered options and oversaw selection of a search firm |
20 | | while seeking the next superintendent, steered the board |
21 | | through the process of filling two vacancies on the board, and |

1 | | assisted the board through the superintendent interview and |
2 | | hiring process; she additionally participated in decisions |
3 | | regarding the design of the kindergarten center, now known as |
4 | | Hawthorn School for Young Learners, and approved bids for the |
5 | | project, in negotiating an IGA with the Village of Vernon |
6 | | Hills and Park District to construct the Hawthorn School for |
7 | | Young Learners at the Sullivan Center, and in collective |
8 | | bargaining on behalf of the Board; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, During her time as a board member, Dr. Patil |
10 | | advocated for a more advantageous position for Hawthorn |
11 | | District 73 in current and future TIF districts, remained |
12 | | focused on moving the district towards its goals throughout |
13 | | the COVID-19 pandemic, asked important questions and |
14 | | contributed thoughtfully to discussions, and approved budgets, |
15 | | tax levies, new or better curricular materials, a new |
16 | | strategic plan, and the reissuing bonds to reduce the |
17 | | financial impact of the referendum; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Patil was also an integral member of the Site & |
19 | | Facilities Committee from 2020 to April 2023; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Patil has served Hawthorn District 73 as a |
21 | | constant, passionate advocate for students and taxpayers; |

1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
2 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
3 | | we recognize Sonali Patil, Ph.D., on her service to the |
4 | | Hawthorn District 73 Board of Education, thank her for her |
5 | | commitment to the students and the community, and wish her |
6 | | best in her future endeavors; and be it further

7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
8 | | presented to Dr. Patil as an expression of our esteem and |
9 | | respect.
