HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize Sonali Patil, Ph.D., on her 
4service to the Hawthorn District 73 Board of Education; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Patil has resided in Vernon Hills with her 
6husband and two children for 22 years; she has a bachelor's 
7degree in pharmaceutical sciences from the University of 
8Bombay in India and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the 
9University of Illinois at Chicago; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Dr. Patil served on the Hawthorn District 73 
11Board of Education from April 2015 to April 2023; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. Patil previously served as board president 
13from April 2017 to April 2019; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, During her tenure as president, Dr. Patil led the 
15Board of Education through placing the second referendum on 
16the ballot and educating the community about the EFMP, 
17researched options for interim superintendents and guided the 
18board through the subsequent interview and hiring process, 
19considered options and oversaw selection of a search firm 
20while seeking the next superintendent, steered the board 
21through the process of filling two vacancies on the board, and

1assisted the board through the superintendent interview and 
2hiring process; she additionally participated in decisions 
3regarding the design of the kindergarten center, now known as 
4Hawthorn School for Young Learners, and approved bids for the 
5project, in negotiating an IGA with the Village of Vernon 
6Hills and Park District to construct the Hawthorn School for 
7Young Learners at the Sullivan Center, and in collective 
8bargaining on behalf of the Board; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, During her time as a board member, Dr. Patil 
10advocated for a more advantageous position for Hawthorn 
11District 73 in current and future TIF districts, remained 
12focused on moving the district towards its goals throughout 
13the COVID-19 pandemic, asked important questions and 
14contributed thoughtfully to discussions, and approved budgets, 
15tax levies, new or better curricular materials, a new 
16strategic plan, and the reissuing bonds to reduce the 
17financial impact of the referendum; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, Dr. Patil was also an integral member of the Site &
19 Facilities Committee from 2020 to April 2023; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Dr. Patil has served Hawthorn District 73 as a 
21constant, passionate advocate for students and taxpayers;

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
2HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
3we recognize Sonali Patil, Ph.D., on her service to the 
4Hawthorn District 73 Board of Education, thank her for her 
5commitment to the students and the community, and wish her 
6best in her future endeavors; and be it further
  
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
8presented to Dr. Patil as an expression of our esteem and 
9respect.
