2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jeanie |
4 | | Dunn, Pastor Emeritus, who passed away on February 28, 2023; |
5 | | and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Pastor Dunn was born in Eutaw, Alabama to John H. |
7 | | and Mary E. Dunn on November 20, 1932; he attended Carver High |
8 | | School in Eutaw; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Pastor Dunn's family were farmers, but at the age |
10 | | of 24, he started a timber cutting business, where he cut and |
11 | | sold timber logs in the area; he began to attend church and |
12 | | joined New Light MB Church in Clinton, Alabama in 1960; he |
13 | | served as assistant Sunday school superintendent from 1960 to |
14 | | 1962; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Pastor Dunn moved to Chicago, where he and his |
16 | | wife started a family and raised three children; upon his |
17 | | relocation, he joined Mt. Zion MB Church and became a deacon; |
18 | | he served on the Deacon Board from 1963 to 1967; in 1967, he |
19 | | joined True Vine of Holiness MB Church, which was founded by |
20 | | his cousin; he served as chairman of both the Deacon Board and |
21 | | the Fundraising Committee from 1967 to 1971; he attended Moody |
22 | | Seminary Institute from 1971 to 1973; he served from 1972 to |

1 | | 1980 as financial secretary of the Auburn Park Ministers |
2 | | Alliance, vice president and secretary of the Fellowship |
3 | | District Association, and chairman of the Evangelism |
4 | | Department at the Progressive Baptist State Convention of |
5 | | Illinois; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, While serving in the ministry, Pastor Dunn |
7 | | attended school and became an automobile mechanic; he was |
8 | | employed by Firestone as a full-time mechanic; he also owned |
9 | | and operated an auto repair business; in 1976, he was offered a |
10 | | position as a mechanic with American Airlines/Sky Chefs, where |
11 | | he remained until retirement; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, Pastor Dunn organized the Greater Tabernacle |
13 | | Holiness MB Church on December 20, 1980; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Pastor Dunn was preceded in death by his parents |
15 | | and siblings; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Pastor Dunn is survived by his wife of 61 years, |
17 | | Minister Augusta M. Dunn; his children, Pastor Gene (Cindy) |
18 | | Dunn, Angela (Herman) Gibson, and Annette Dunn; his |
19 | | grandchildren, Kavin Williams, Brandon (Brooke) Dunn, Spencer |
20 | | Dunn, Taylor Dunn, and Armani Gibson; his great-grandchildren, |
21 | | Braylon Richardson, Wyzdom Dunn, Rylah Dunn, Bryce Dunn, and |
22 | | Kennedi Kimbrough; his nephews, Reverend Dr. James E. (Jan) |

1 | | Dunn, Michael A. Dunn, Henry E. Dunn, and Willie G. Dunn; |
2 | | numerous other relatives and friends; his spiritual son, |

5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
6 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
7 | | we mourn the passing of Jeanie Dunn, Pastor Emeritus and |
8 | | extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all |
9 | | who knew and loved him; and be it further

10 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
11 | | presented to the family of Pastor Dunn as an expression of our |
12 | | deepest sympathy.
