HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lucy M.
4Henry, who passed away on February 13, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lucy Henry was born to Alma McDowell and Rev.
6James Hill in Memphis, Tennessee on October 14, 1926; she
7received her formal education in Chicago and attended Loyola
8University; she married Cody Henry in August of 1948; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Lucy Henry proudly performed accounting and
10payroll duties for Archbishop Shield in the Archdiocese of
11Chicago; she then worked for Henry Crown, from which she
12retired after more than 25 years of service; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Lucy Henry was deeply committed to her faith and
14originally was a member of Friendship M.B. Church; she later
15moved to St. Joseph M B Church; once she started working for
16the Archdiocese of Chicago, she converted to Catholicism and
17enrolled her children in the Catholic school system; she also
18joined St. Martin Episcopal Church with her daughter-in-law
19and later returned to St Martin de Porres Church, where she was
20well loved and respected; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Lucy Henry lived a life of service and gave

1freely of her time, talent, and treasure; she loved Grace
2House and sat on its advisory board since its inception more
3than 20 years ago; she also held an annual dinner around
4Thanksgiving for the men at St. Leonard's; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lucy Henry was known for her impeccable style and
6class; she loved shopping and buying little "thinking about
7you" gifts for loved ones; she also enjoyed entertaining
8family and friends and traveling; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Lucy Henry was preceded in death by her parents;
10her great-grandparents, Henry and Lucy Ann Grand Christine
11McDowell; her brother, William Hill; her children, Gerald and
12Elisabeth Henry; her daughter-in-love, Sylvia Henry; and her
13nephews, Andrew and William "Billy" Hill; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Lucy Henry is survived by her children, Janice,
15Cody Wayne, and Theodore (Teddy) Henry; her nephew, Steven
16Hill (Denise); her grandchildren, Gerald (Nicole) Henry, Akil
17Henry, Gina Henry (Christopher Booker), Ellissa Langston, and
18Shani Henry; her seven great-grandchildren, Martel, Dawn,
19Gerald, Prince, Nicole, Jordyn, and Journey; her bonus
20grandchildren, Deandre and Dawn; her great-granddog, Riley
21Langston; and a host of other relatives and dear friends;

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we mourn the passing of Lucy M. Henry and extend our sincere
4condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
5her; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Lucy Henry as an expression of our
8deepest sympathy.
