2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Keith |
4 | | Edward Harris, who passed away on February 9, 2023; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Keith Harris was born in Chicago to Roy and |
6 | | Nellie Jean Harris on April 17, 1968; he grew up in Bellwood, |
7 | | where he attended Roosevelt Middle School and graduated from |
8 | | St. Joseph High School in Westchester; after high school, he |
9 | | attended Triton College and graduated from Lewis University in |
10 | | Romeoville with an associate's degree in Business |
11 | | Administration and Management; he married Tassanee "Tess" |
12 | | Bailey on August 29, 1992; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Keith Harris had an illustrious career spanning |
14 | | three decades; he worked in the insurance industry for |
15 | | MetLife, Mercer Insurance, and Cigna; he was also a |
16 | | businessman and entrepreneur and owned and managed several |
17 | | residential properties; he made a hobby out of going to Home |
18 | | Depot, where he would often spend hours; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Keith Harris was a servant at heart; he was on the |
20 | | police force of the Bellwood Police Department for a short |
21 | | period of time; he also served as a trustee for the Village of |
22 | | Bellwood and on the Planning & Zoning Commissioner Board; he |

1 | | later became a member of the Homewood Community Events Board |
2 | | and was a longtime active and faithful board member of |
3 | | Operation Uplift and Taproots, Inc.; and |
4 | | WHEREAS, Keith Harris committed to his faith at an early |
5 | | age; while still living in Bellwood, he and Tess attended Rock |
6 | | of Ages Baptist Church in Maywood; after moving to Homewood, |
7 | | they attended Victory Apostolic Church in Matteson, where he |
8 | | enjoyed the Men's Ministry weekly sessions, affectionately |
9 | | known as the "Basement"; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, Keith Harris was a loyal, admired, trusted, and |
11 | | committed friend to many; he had a humble personality and was |
12 | | always open, warm, welcoming, thoughtful, respectful, and |
13 | | considerate to everyone; he looked out for his neighbors and |
14 | | would often shovel their snow, just like he did his own; when |
15 | | outdoors in the spring and summer, his pride and joy was his |
16 | | prize-winning lawn that was admired by all; when the kids in |
17 | | the neighborhood needed air in their bikes, he was the "go to" |
18 | | bike maintenance guy; he was also the neighborhood carpool |
19 | | driver and made several stops to drop kids off at school; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Keith Harris was preceded in death by his |
21 | | grandparents, Robert and Bernice Harris and Herbert and Ruby |
22 | | Taylor; his uncles, Joe, Richard, and Robert Taylor and |
23 | | Melvin, Tyrone, and Jeffery Bailey; his aunts, Eva Starks, |

1 | | Shirley Golston, and June Taylor; and his cousins Michael and |
2 | | Charles Harris; and

3 | | WHEREAS, Keith Harris is survived by his wife, Tassanee; |
4 | | his son, Kendall; his daughter, Ariana; his parents, Roy and |
5 | | Nellie Jean Harris and Duane and Barbara Lee Sr.; his sister, |
6 | | Sylvia (Adrian) Zeno; his brother, Duane (Christian) Lee Jr.; |
7 | | his aunts, Janette Latiker, Stella Taylor, Yolanda Taylor, |
8 | | Alma Walton, Demetrius (Gerald) Barbee, and Lisa Johnson; his |
9 | | uncles, Robert Harris, Howard Starks Sr., Herbert Taylor, and |
10 | | Bernard Bailey; his great-aunts, Meloneal Hobson and Mattie |
11 | | White; his nieces, Gisele, Skky, Nova, and Reign; his nephew, |
12 | | Deonte; his special cousin, Kristian Latiker; and numerous, |
13 | | cousins, other relatives, friends, neighbors, and colleagues; |
14 | | therefore, be it

15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
16 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
17 | | we mourn the passing of Keith Edward Harris and extend our |
18 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew |
19 | | and loved him; and be it further

20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
21 | | presented to the family of Keith Harris as an expression of our |
22 | | deepest sympathy.
